Art

Term 2, Week 2

Welcome to Term 2 Art.

Welcome BPS Artists young and old. 😊

It is terrific to see everyone back at school and straight into their creative learning in Art.

Many of the children have enjoyed sharing the highlights of their holidays and it is wonderful to know that so many children enjoy following up their own Art activities at home including painting, drawing, modelling and construction.

Another Arty area of ‘holiday highlights’ were visits to the local Galleries, Artvo, The Lume wonderful exhibition of Monet and Friends, trips to the National Gallery of Victoria and The Ian Potter Centre for Australian Art.

Children benefit so much from these visits and seeing famous and fascinating two and three-dimensional Art works in a Gallery setting.

Art Captains

At the end of Term 1 we said farewell to Shemmy one of our two special Art Captains.

This Term we welcome Celeste as one of our 2023 Art Captain along with Dora.

These two verrrry creative young Artists will bring lot to our BPS Art program.

Congratulations and well done Celeste and Dora on your Art Captain Roles and best wishes for a happy and creative year ahead.

Term 2

This term we will be having a 'Creative' focus on ' The Art Elements ' and how we work with these 6 elements to create our Artwork.

Art Elements are often referred to as the 'Building Blocks' we use to make our Artworks.

Using the Art Elements, we make Art to express our ideas, what we feel, what we imagine and what we see.

Art is such a wonderful creative subject, allowing for individual learning, open ended activities and personal expression of unique ideas.

The Six Art Elements are:

  1. Colour and Colour Value,
  2. Line,
  3. Space,
  4. Form,
  5. Texture
  6. Shape

Each lesson in Art sequentially develops Art skills and techniques while using a range of Art materials across all levels of the school.

This Term in Art we will be completing a range of activities including:

*Drawing:

*Drawings with Line, Shape and Form with limited colour palettes - Robots

*Go Slow - Wellbeing in Art forms, go slow forms and creatures in nature, colours, lines and shapes

*Concept Illustration Grade 6. 'Lost Time',  'Time got away', 'If only we had the time....'

*Papier Mache, 3D modelling / construction, painting and decorating.

*Drawing and Painting Autumn Colours, shapes, patterns, forms and textures.

*Exploring the great Masters from the Impressionist period and their 'Autumn Artworks'.

*Mother's Day artwork: Portraits and Pastel colours.

*Folio Designs, using a variety of type styles, graphic images and colour groups for impact plus we will learn about focal points in design.

*Animals in Art.

Throughout the ages Artists have included their favourite dogs, horses, cats and assorted animals in their Artworks. Pets bring another dimension to our lives and also to our Artwork.

*Students will learn about how famous Artists have drawn, painted, collaged, sculpted and printed pets and animals in their artwork. They will learn about the creative techniques used by Artists through different periods of time to exaggerate mood and create feeling in Art. Students will work with a range of materials around this theme. Picasso loved pigeons and Doves, Stubbs painted beautiful horses, Durer drew Rabbits...

Rabbits have been a special part of our Artwork this year with 2023 being the Year of the Rabbit, recent Easter pop up cards and drawing and designing Robot pets too.

Each week many of our young Artists bring in Artworks that they have completed in their own time at home. In class we enjoy sharing the students work. We have so many wonderfully creative students at our school. Here are just a few colourful and beautiful works that have been done in B.P.S home studios or during the recent holidays. I am very proud of the children and their beautiful work. Thank you to parents and family members for providing the children with drawing materials and opportunities to be visually creative at home. Art is certainly relaxing and calming and helps us journey into our imagination and think through our creative ideas before putting them into 2D or 3D Artworks.

A quiet place, set up for children to go to and create in quiet times allows for spontaneous and restful creativity. In our busy lives, this benefits our children in many ways.

And.....Here are just a few pictures of some of the creative work completed in recent weeks.

Starting with......

...and a few examples of works in progress from Grades 1 to 6.

We all look forward to a creative term in the months ahead.

Best wishes,
