The Patch Program

Term 2, Week 2

In The Patch, we have started the year planting lots and lots into our new beds. Lots of winter vegetables were planted at the end of term one, and we are still clearing out our beds from summer vegetables to get them ready to plant even more winter vegetables.

We’ve planted lots of the Brassica family, which are vegetables such as broccolini, broccoli, kale and cauliflower. Also, carrots, lettuces, bok choy, radishes, kohlrabi, beetroot and spring onions to name just some of them.

We have also harvested all the pumpkins we grew, so we will be able to cook with them at a later time. We are also pulling up some ENORMOUS carrots! Look at this one (phone for size), which we will be cooking with this week.

Reminder: the garden kinder session is next week! If you have a kinder aged child, we would love to see you there!

A request: if any one has bags of dry leaves they’d like to get rid of we would love to get them to mix into our compost bins. Please leave in the old chicken coop (undercover) in The Patch.

In the kitchen every year level made pizzas. We made 2 different types - a tomato and basil one, and a zucchini, sliver beet and mint one. Everyone had the chance to try both, and I think a lot of students were surprised at how yummy they both were!

And look out for my Compass alerts to sign up to help with our Patch cooking lessons.

Happy cooking & gardening,
