Term 2, Week 2
Welcome back to an exciting and jam packed Term 2! The children have settled well back into the routines of school and are looking forward to a fabulous term of learning.
This term, we are focusing on Vocabulary and Comprehension of fiction and non-fiction text. Students will learn to use strategies such as reading on, sentence clues and looking at the base words to work out the meaning of challenging vocabulary. Students will also make inferences using their own knowledge and information from the text. In the coming weeks, we will be assessing the students' reading and comprehension in preparation for reports.
This term the students have been exploring fiction texts and how an author writes with different sentence fluency. The students are being explicitly taught that sentence fluency is one of the traits (skills) that writers need to be able to create expression and add meaning to their writing pieces. Sentence fluency focuses on the way the words and phrases flow throughout the text. They are crafted well built sentences with varying sentence lengths and varied sentence beginnings. Later in the term our writing focus will change to another writing trait: word choice. Students will have opportunities to explore specific vocabulary that a writer needs in order to convey meaning. We are enjoying reading all of the different writing pieces the students have written as their choice is so varied and based on their interests. This is one of the strengths of our writing program at BPS where students have choice!
We have been examining fractions. We have learnt about the language used in fractions, such as numerator and denominator. SWe have had the opportunity to divide single objects and groups of objects into various fractions. We have examined the relationship between various fractions, such as the relationship between halves, quarters, and eighths. We have also had the chance to look at the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percentages. Later in the term, we will be looking at Probability and Data, Addition, and Subtraction. We are going to have a fantastic and informative Term 2!
Our topic this term is on Forces. We will investigate and explore the different types of forces around us. The students will conduct experiments and learn about the types of forces in rotation starting this week. A fun and engaging incursion has been organised for the 5th/ 6th June.
