Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

We have had another great week, this week, with a highlight being Wednesday's Cluster Swimming Carnival.

Congratulations and thank you to all the students for their participation, cooperation and team spirit on the day.  Your cheering could be heard from the oval!  The final scores for the day were:  1st Mitta Red, 2nd Indigo Blue, 3rd Murray Yellow, 4th Kiewa Green.

Our congratulations also to the age group champions:

8/9 years - Luella and Patrick

10 years - Cleo and Sam

11 years - Scarlett and Mac

12/13 years - Nina and Tully

An enormous amount of work goes into these events and I would particularly like to thank and acknowledge Steph for her organisation and to all staff who, within their roles, ensured the event ran so smoothly.  Once again, this was a great team effort!  Our thanks also to all the parents who assisted with timing events and cheering on the swimmers, not to mention participating in the teacher/parent relay! You all helped to make it a great day and we really appreciate your support.

Next Tuesday afternoon, the 14th February, we invite families to join us in celebrating the start of a new year with a special afternoon tea.  We hope you will take the time to come and meet with our staff and other families from 3.30 - 4.30pm.  There will also be an opportunity to get creative and to see your child's classroom.

School Council Elections are now underway! This year we have four parent vacancies.  If you would like to nominate, please complete the online nomination form sent out on the School Council page of this newsletter before next Friday 17th February.  In the event that we have more than four nominations, a vote will be held.

Next week, students in Years 3-6 will also have the opportunity to nominate for our Student Representative Council (SRC).  Students will be writing and presenting speeches to their class as part of this process.

Many thanks to families for their support with returning hats and book bags.  If you haven't done so already, please send in the red and blue book bags your child was issued when they first started school.  It is important that all students have reader and library bags in order to keep our books in top condition for as long as possible, and to assist students with their personal organisation.

Over the last week, we have had several capital works projects completed.  The BER extension is now complete with a kitchen/office space and two toilets.  With the sudden drop in temperature last Friday, it was great to be able to once again use this building for our Friday morning assemblies.   On Monday, our new shade sails were also completed.  These will be a welcome source of additional shade and shelter from the elements during play, sports and other outdoor learning activities.

This year, all students will be participating in the Grow Your Mind program.  For more information about this, please refer to the slides below or check out the website, which also has parent resources.
