Year 5/6 Camp

It's not every week that you get the opportunity to raft down the Snowy river, but for our Year Five/Six students and a group of our staff (me included!) our Wednesday was quite the adventure.

After my first experience of Karoonda Park Camp (situated in Gelantipy) I must say that it certainly lived up to the hype.  I'd heard all sorts of great stories from Launch parents who had attended themselves back in the day, teachers who had attended pre-Covid and students who had heard awesome stories from siblings about this great camp and all the adventure that was to be had.

I'll let our students share all the details on their return but I certainly did want to thank our families for the value they placed on the camping program by paying $500+ for their child and in many cases children to attend.   I can confirm that key life skills have been learnt, relationships with peers and staff strengthened and most importantly many beautiful childhood memories created.

Thanks to Mrs. Lorenc for organising and to Paul, Naomi, Mrs Pearson and Mrs Hartshorn for attending.

Thumbs up Launchers for a job well done!

Leadership Day for our Year 1 students

On Tuesday our Year One students were welcomed to the School of Student Leadership - Don Valley Campus.  Mark, a co-ordinator at the school contacted us last year to see if we might be interested in attending their Local Learning Project Day in which there 40 Year Nine students from across the state would work with a group of our students, sharing with them some of their learnings about leadership and management of self.

Mrs Bishop attended on the day and had this to report:

'Just wanted to give feedback to you about this excursion. It was  amazing! Our students, Sonia and I had the best day. All the grade 1s had a Year 9 buddy or 2 and they'd designed all the activities for the kids to do. The Year 9s were so lovely, they kept the kids engaged and they redirected them when needed.

The staff were so welcoming, the facilities were amazing and I can't believe I didn't know it was there!! They fed us too which was a bonus.

Obviously they're networking with the local primary schools and I told them to keep Launch on their books for future days like that. I would definitely go back in a heartbeat! Sonia and I returned like 2 excited kids to share stories with everyone, it was that good!'

Great to know that our State Education system continues to provide some excellent opportunities for Secondary students.

Have a great weekend everyone!

See you around our place.
