2022 Year 12 Student Outcomes
We were very excited when we received information on our 2022 Year 12 pathways. Almost every student who applied for a tertiary course through VTAC were offered a place. The majority of students received their first or second choice which was excellent. Approximately 45% of eligible students were offered a course at Monash University (prior to this, the highest percentage was around 10%).
Students were also accepted at Chisholm, which was via direct entry, and a number of others picked up apprenticeships. It is always a great outcome when students complete their structured work placement with an employer who then, after the placement ends, offers them an apprenticeship or full time job. The Australian Defence Force is also popular and we have several students hoping to be accepted into the ADF.
Well done to all of these students and we wish them well in this next stage of their lives.
What is the UCAT?
You may have heard the word ‘UCAT’ mentioned in relation to medical courses. UCAT stands for University Clinical Aptitude Test and this test is a requirement for a range of tertiary courses throughout Australia. It is a computer based admissions test and courses such as medical, dental and clinical science degrees may require an applicant to have completed this test (many courses DO NOT ask for this).
In Victoria, Medicine at Monash University requires all applicants to complete the UCAT. They will receive a score on this test and this, combined with their ATAR and interview, will determine whether or not a position in the course will be offered.
There are many UCAT preparation courses available, ranging in price. If you are considering one of these, you will need to investigate what each one offers. Testing begins on 3 July 2023 however, the regular booking deadline is 17 May 2023. Bookings open on 1 March 2023. A Concession Scheme is also available if you qualify and there are also dates linked to this.
