Around The Primary

Dear Parents,

A very happy Easter to all our John XXIII families!

Thank you for your wonderful support of staff, children and other families throughout the term.  Every kind word, every generous offer, every time you have spoken positively and given others the benefit of the doubt, every prayer shared … this all helps to build our community and keep it strong.

I hope you have the opportunity to relax and to spend some quality time with your families over Easter. During the holidays, let’s all try to find some quiet moments in our busy lives for prayer and reflection, focusing on all we are grateful for and to reassess and re-prioritise our lives and to connect more deeply with our faith and all it has to offer.

Wishing you all a very safe and peaceful Easter.

Kind regards,

Sports Update

It has been a very busy term with swimming carnivals, futsal and basketball tournaments. The enthusiasm that our students have brought to these competitions has been fantastic!

Next term will see the Year 3 – 6 students engaging in fitness testing and then working to improve their personal fitness.  We also begin our winter sports with the Year 5 & 6’s playing some Interschool matches against some of our nearby schools.  Cross country training will begin on Tuesday 25 May and will be held each Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7:30am in the St Louis Sports Centre.  Please note that commitments to choir and band take priority.

Stay fit and healthy over the holidays. Feel free to email through some pictures of your family being active steve.williams@cewa.edu.au

Primary Choirs

Congratulations to the students in Wanju Voices who performed at St Joseph’s Church in Subiaco on Palm Sunday last weekend. The students were excellent ambassadors for the College, and there were many wonderful comments from the parishioners. Please see below for the acknowledgement in the parish bulletin.

We are very fortunate to have members of the Wanju Voices Choir from John XXIII College in Mt Claremont joining us this weekend.  Under the direction of Catherine Haydon, these students in Year 4 to 6 will provide a wonderful accompaniment to our Palm Sunday celebrations.  Thank you to the students, and their parents, for giving up your time to make our Palm Sunday celebration special.

Congratulations also to the students in Wanju Voices, Primary Singers and Chapel Choir. These students participated in the Holy Week Concert on Monday night, which was an evening of beautiful choral music and reflection to commence Holy Week.

Pipe Organ and Harpsichord

The Year 6 students have been discussing Bach and his music. The students were delighted to discover that the College Chapel is home to a pipe organ and harpsichord, which were prominent instruments during the Baroque period. The students explored the different ways in which sound was produced on these instruments and compared this with the mechanism of the piano. Each student had the opportunity to play both the pipe organ and harpsichord, taking note of how the instruments felt and sounded different.
