From the Principal

Holy Week

Holy Week liturgies have been conducted this week. It has been delightful to attend faith filled events with our students, staff and parents that have brought to life the Easter message of faith, hope and reconciliation. The death and resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of our faith and the reason for our existence as a Catholic school. The Lenten period leading up to Easter is always a wonderful time to reflect on our lives and bring ourselves closer to God.

Thank you to all students, staff and parents for a busy and enjoyable Term 1. We wish Easter Blessings for all our families and especially acknowledge the following members of staff whose time at the College is coming to an end.

  • Mrs Fiona Hassell, Science Teacher
  • Ms Anjuli Duncan, Languages Teacher
  • Ms Desa Lucas, Languages Teacher

We thank each of them for their contribution to the College. I would like to especially mention Dr Margaret Yoon. Dr Yoon will continue with Relief Teaching next term and we will acknowledge more formally her decades of service at the end of this year.

Master Plan update

There has been plenty of work behind the scenes in recent weeks to ensure that our Master Planning proceeds in a timely manner.

The new Car Park on the edge of the ovals is ahead of schedule, and the steel frame is now being erected for the new Grounds and Maintenance Facility on John XXIII Avenue.

A delay with respect to the extension to the A Block Car Park has been necessary as the College has sought expert advice on managing uncontrolled building rubble that was discovered during the excavation works.

The building rubble was found to contain asbestos material (most likely from a former hospital building demolished in the 1980s), the affected areas of the site were secured and all work immediately ceased. Specialist Engineers have been consulted and all work being done is per the relevant safety standards by qualified contractors. In accordance with that advice, the asbestos material excavated will be removed and the site appropriately remediated by a licensed contractor during the coming school holidays. The carpark construction will then continue as originally planned.

Wishing peace for this Easter Season to all our community.
