Sports Report

Northern Metro Regional Swimming Championships – March 24th

Our amazing swimming team travelled to WaterMarc in Greensborough to take on the next competitive stage of swimming in a hope to continue our success from Division day. A heavily wet and cold day outside, but a very warm day inside the indoor pool encouraged our swimmers to perform to their best. We had a record broken by Charlie Millard in the 16 years 50m Breaststroke and another record with Chantelle Campbell’s 50m Backstroke event in the 18-20 years. A tremendous effort by these two. The success did not stop there though, with Charlie Millard winning 5 individual events, Chantelle Campbell winning 4, Ciara Walsh and Natasha Lowe both winning 3. Quite possibly the biggest feat from the day was winning 6/6 freestyle relays and 3/3 medley relays – an achievement that is very rare at such a competitive level of swimming. On top of this, MGC came second overall out of all competing schools (due to being in half as many events as co-ed schools). A very warm thank you to all of our helpers who came out and assisted with timing duties on the lanes. Our photographers, and also to Ms. Cameron-Martin for her team manager/number one ticket holder role. Now, 25 of our swimmers will make their way to the State Championships on Thursday the 22nd of April (Week 1 of Term 2) to showcase their talents.

Sport Captain badge ceremony – 29th March

In the last week of term 1, MGC had a special ceremony for our hard-working sport captains. Sport simply can’t go ahead without their willingness to help with administration duties, House Carnivals and coaching expertise throughout a very busy school calendar of sport.

Thank you to the following students and congratulations on your efforts so far:

Senior captains - Saskia Junge, Victoria Trentin, Charlee Boltuc, Gen Chaplin, Rosa Bickers-Murphy, Alessandra Donnelly and Amanda Kristanto.
