MGC 2021 House Production

We’re back!!!

It is with much pleasure that our Arts Captains announce the theme of this year’s House Production… "Board games"!

At our information session on Tuesday, 27/4 after school, each House was randomly allocated a board game.

  • Chisholm: Cluedo
  • Lyons: Monopoly
  • Maris: Game of Life
  • Melba: Snakes and Ladders

From just this one word, four original ten minute shows will be created!

What is a House Production?

At Melbourne Girls’ College, we have a strong foundation built on leadership and belonging and the House Production encompasses these values perfectly. House Production is a biannual event at MGC which is an example of our motto, where girls’ “lead and achieve”. It is an entirely student led collaboration, from the selection of the theme by our Arts Captains, to writing, rehearsing and performing.

Starting with a blank canvas can be a daunting task, but it is also a wonderful creative opportunity to have total control over your plot, characters and song choices to create a completely original performance from scratch.

When is House Production?

House Production is in Term 3, Week 4. There will be 2 evening performance on Thursday, August 5th and Friday August 6th at the Renaissance Theatre, Kew High (due to the current building works for our new Performing arts building) Put these dates in your calendar now!

When are rehearsals?

Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays afterschool from 3.30-4.30pm, beginning in Week 4, on Tuesday, 11th May.

Some lunchtimes and Thursdays afterschool will also be required as we get closer to the performance.

Who are my Arts Captains?

How can I be involved?

You might want to be onstage, performing as an actor, dancer and/or singer/instrumentalist.

You might want to take on a leadership role such as directing, choreography or scriptwriting.

Or you might prefer to take on a non-performing role, such as backstage crew, lighting, sound, props, costumes, publicity, video, photography- the list is endless!

Missed the information meeting?

Farewell to the Auditorium Soiree

On Wednesday, 31st March, we were very excited to be able to host a live performance again! This concert was our first for 2021 and our last in our current Auditorium before the building works for our new Performing Arts Centre begin. The evening opened with a performance by Jaeda McPherson of two of her original compositions, “I Lied” and “The Station” before a duet with Jo Kozabanis, performing “Gracelands Too”.  Our Senior Rock Band then performed “No Tears Left to Cry”.  Our MGC Orchestra showcased songs they have been working on during our recent Music Camp, featuring vocalists Violette Spataro, Sandu Matapatuna, Charlotte Dirckze, Abi Williams, Beth Pert, Gigi Flugge and Darby Stoffell.

Thank you to all our wonderful student performers and a special shout out to Ashleigh Illingworth for technical support. Thank you to Henry and Chris Lattin for their attendance and support. Thank you to our Performing Arts Team, Lindy Mumme, Wen Chin and honorary member Trev Howlett (Technical) and Andy Clarke (Senior Rock Band) Lastly, a  huge thank you to Tony Hicks for all his work in leading and preparing our MGC Orchestra.
