Term 2 VCE Workshops

Using Compass for Attendance Notes

Did you know that using your Compass app to record an attendance note for your child is so much faster than emailing or calling the school?

We invite parents/carers to come into the Administration Office every Tuesday during Term Two between 3:00pm – 3:30pm to come and learn how to make the most out of their Compass app!

If you cannot make into the school, please see some basic instructions below:

Tech Support

“It’s a feature not a bug”, in this post I wanted to share a couple of things about Canvas and how it displays some information. First up, students can edit their results in the marks section, this seems like a big issue, in fact it is a feature of Canvas. The student edited mark in Canvas is a “what if” mark that helps students set goals and reflect on outcomes. It is not permanent and has no weight on their actual marks, you can identify a what if mark by a symbol (left pointing arrow) next to the score.

The student mark book can also look quite complex. But it is meant to be a live summary not a final report. You can arrange assessments by the Due Date, Title, Module (Topic) and Assignment Group. Assignment Groups will give you the best view based on students formal (CAT’s, SAC’s & SAT’s) assessment. The bold titles at the bottom of the marks section are the cumulative totals for each Assignment Group set up by the teacher, some of these may be out of 0 or - this is because the tasks in the assignment group are set to complete/incomplete instead of assigned a point or percentage value. If something doesn’t look right here, it is worth checking in with the teacher of that subject. You can find out more information on the marks section in the videos hosted on the padlet by CLICKING HERE.
