Curriculum Days 2021

Dear Families,

Welcome back to school! A great start to the term. It won’t be long before all the usual routines kick in again and we hit our straps. I do hope you all enjoyed a break over the holidays and are ready to go for Term 2. There is so much happening around the school this term and I encourage all of you to be organised! Keep an eye on the school calendar via the newsletter that Anna constructs weekly.

Grateful: Monday night after school I saw soccer sessions on the soccer pitch and basketball training on both courts. It reminded me of pre-COVID times and how great it is we are back into so many of our sports and hobbies that others around the world are still unable to participate in. Let’s not take this for granted and make sure we are being as safe as possible.

ANZAC day: This Sunday is an opportunity to remember the service people from World War 1 who fought for our country and its freedom. With many services still on hold, many families will light a candle at dawn in their driveway. Our school captains are working towards a small commemoration at the assembly this Friday and a wreath will be laid at The Park on behalf of our school community.

Facilities: Over the holidays Mrs H spent many hours at school coordinating various trades people. From painters, gardeners, solar installation to plumbers and accessibility works, Mrs H did a great job. Please read on about all the works she has been coordinating.

Reminders: School starts at 9am! Please do your best to have your child in the school grounds from 8:45am when supervision begins. The music will play for about 2 minutes (from about 8:58am) and your child should be making their way to class. Late passes can be obtained via the office but let’s make an effort to be on time! And hats are optional now but we still encourage families to check the UV forecast and make an informed decision about wearing hats.

Excursions: Digital permission forms via Sentral will continue for excursion without payment. If payment is required a permission form will come home.

Long Service Leave: Some of our staff are at the stage of their career where they have accrued long service leave. Some staff take it in bulk, some spread it out and some don’t use it!!! We are very lucky to have some high quality casual replacement teachers (CRT’s) that we call upon to help fill these periods of leave - just like when teachers get sick! Who knew they were human!!!

Year 5 Camp: Looking forward to visiting the campers next week! The Year 5’s head off for 2 nights and 3 days to the other side of the bay! Thanks to the Year 5 team who have planned and organised this great opportunity for the kids. If you have NOT finalised your payments or set up your payment plan, please contact Jenny in the office. Medication needs to be labelled with clear and specific instructions and should be given to the teachers on the morning before leaving for camp. Have a great time kids!

Cross Country: How good was the last day of term 1??? The Year 3-6 students walked down to the beautiful Ocean Grove beach for a great cross country run. Some ran to make it to the next level, some ran for fun and some ran for the challenge of just completing the course. But these events don’t just happen. Mr Hughes and Mr Dunne with our house captains loaded up my ute and then helped set up and pack up the event. I’m sure Mr Hughes will have a full wrap up soon. Well done to all!

Assemblies: We would love to have everything back to normal such as parent helpers and assemblies open for everyone but the latest Operation Guide from DET states “density limits apply with external guests”. We have managed this extremely well over the past 12 months or more and will continue to have the families of award recipients attend assembly only. Please sign in via the QR code or the sign in sheet provided.

Have a great week everyone.
