Career Celebrations

Congratulations to Lizzy Love (Class of 2020) for being invited to perform at Top Class Drama as part of the VCE Season of Excellence. She performed at the Art Centre Melbourne on the 9th March.  We were excited to be able to take our senior drama students to watch her brilliant performance.  Congratulations to her VCE Drama teacher Ms Lynette Campbell too!  Well done Lizzy - we are so proud of you.

Congratulations to Emma Handley (nee Holbery, CLC 1990) and her beautiful restaurant Templar Lodge by Emma Handley being named in the Herald Sun Top 100 Restaurants in Victoria. Emma is committed to sourcing local produce and much of the fruit and vegetables are grown on her own farm - it couldn't sound more delicious!

We are very excited to have the Toscano’s Family Table book in our resource centre written by our very own Joanne Toscano (CLC 1988).  The book shares Joanne’s love for fresh produce and her family’s story and recipes.  You can find Joanne’s book at all good bookstores.

 

 

 

Kate Moloney (CLC 2011) came to visit our students.  Since graduating from CLC, Kate has gone on to captain the Melbourne Vixens and represent Australia in Netball.  Thanks Kate for coming in and inspiring our girls to be the best they can be.

 

 

 

 

 

Bridget Helliar (nee Murphy, CLC 1994) has recently published a book with her husband, Peter.  The book is titled Trippin’ with Kids and is about encouraging parents to travel with their kids, focusing on their own travel experiences.  The book, released on August 5, 2020, can be found at all good book retailers.

 

 

 

 

Young Women Leaders of Nillumbik Awards

 

Madeleine Cameron (CLC 2013) is the recipient of this year’s Nillumbik Young Woman of the Year Award. Madeleine is an integral member of headspace Greensborough’s Youth Advisory Council. Throughout this role she has represented headspace at a variety of advocacy groups including the National Youth Reference Group and the Clinical Governance Consortia which she provides meaningful feedback and input. Madeleine has dedicated herself to advocating for youth mental health in the context of COVID-19, meeting with Prime Minister Scott Morrison to discuss the importance of supporting young people’s engagement and mental health during Melbourne’s lockdown period. This advocacy work resulted in the provision of federal funding to support National youth Mental Health service, headspaces to enabling the support of many young people at risk or disengaged from education. Madeleine prides herself in displaying honesty, integrity and equality in all areas of her life, balancing her advocacy work with full time study in occupational therapy. Congratulations Madeleine !

 

 

Luna the Moon were awarded Nillumbik's Young Creative Leaders Award, an award for a group of women using the creative arts to represent, motivate and inspire the community. Jess Maio (CLC 2015), Julia Marulli (CLC 2015) and Issy Votsis (CLC 2015) are an acoustic ukulele trio from Eltham with a passion for music and performance. Over the past year they have adapted their performances to provided online concerts during lockdown, bringing music and entertainment to the community when it was needed most. Playing covers of new tunes and old classics such as The Beatles and Elvis, Luna The Moon brings diverse members of the community together. Luna The Moon are caring and passionate musicians who love to share their music and provide joy to others. Congratulations Luna The Moon!

 

 

Congratulations to Shania John (CLC 2018) who received this year’s Nillumbik Young Sports Leader Award, for a young woman who leads and inspires others to participate in sport and physical activity. Shania was amongst the first all-girls cricket team in the Diamond Valley League and is now a senior player at Research Eltham Collegians Cricket Club where she captains a mostly male team. She also serves as the league’s girl’s cricket coordinator and has coached many female cricket teams, ensuring young girls are provided with the confidence and inspiration to continue in the sport. Shania has blazed a trail, breaking barriers for other girls who want to play the sport and take on leadership roles in community sport. Shania’s passion for inclusion will see her excel in many future fields.  Shania also took the time out of her busy schedule to come and inspire the next generation of CLC students. Congratulations to Caroline Gouws (CLC 2012).  Caroline graduated with a PhD in Nutrition. In addition she was awarded the Parker medal for the most outstanding PhD thesis examined at the University of Canberra 2020.
