Senior School Update

It might sound early, but Term 2 is the time when we start building programs and the timetable for 2022!
This term Senior School and Careers will host the Senior Expo, and Course Counselling for Years 9 into 10, 10 into 11, and 11 into 12. You can imagine how big this job is, which is why we need parents and students to be organised and well informed.
Home Group Teachers deliver Careers curriculum to those groups, which supports students with the process, as well as the resources to make informed decisions about their future pathways. Parents, please open the conversation at home about subject choices and pathway options, and use our website for guidance. See the Careers section of this newsletter for dates and more information.
We are finalising the format of the Course Counselling events for Year 9s and 10s, as last year it operated very successfully on Zoom, and are considering the best model (on site, online, mixed) to meet the needs of students, parents, and College. This involves over 700 students and families, so it's a huge series of events each year. We will communicate through Compass once it's finalised.
Year 11s have Course Confirmation at school with the Careers and Senior leaders, parents do not need to attend, but of course are welcome to make an appointment if a more extensive conversation is required. Most Year 11 students follow the same program into Year 12, so their counselling session is less intensive as Year 9s and 10s.
In the second half of Term 2 we have Year 10 exams and Year 11 VCE exams, which are compulsory for all students in those programs. Students are provided extensive preparation and support, including how to manage stress and clear thinking under timed assessments. It is a great opportunity for a formal setting to demonstrate their learning, get out of their comfort zone, and challenge themselves. We appreciate parents' support of students and the College during exams.
Year 11 students might be more interested to hear that the reward after exams is the 2021 Winter Ball! Students need to purchase their tickets here: www.tickethost.com.au?Event=1950.
Best wishes to all the Year 10 students who are going out to Work Experience next week, we hope you have a wonderful time and learn interesting new skills, and most importantly get a taste of the industry you might be hoping for a pathway in. Half of the cohort goes out this semester and the second half in Semester 2. It's a mammoth task getting around 350 students into the workplace, so a huge thank-you to all the Pathways To Success teacher and Careers team.
