Music

This is the week!!!
Year Three and Four students will be beginning to learn the recorder hands on!!!
There has been much patient waiting for this momentous event, and questioning, such as “When are we going to do recorder?” While some of this year’s Year Four students learned very quickly how to play the recorder during lockdown last year, many did not so it’s really exciting for everyone.
They’ve been learning about where the notes sit on the staff and the importance of the treble clef in the last couple of weeks, as well as avoiding being bitten by the alligator. Drawing the treble clef begins with the warning: “DON’T DO THIS AT HOME”.
In case you’re wondering, you start on the second bottom line of the staff (the five lines), and follow these directions:
- Bounce on the bed (but never, never do this at home. It’s really dangerous.) (While saying this, draw a small circle on the second line from the bottom of the five lines or staff.)
- Hit your head on the ceiling. (Curl your line like a snail from the small circle out to the left and up to just touch the middle line.)
- Fall on the floor. (Continue the curl down to the right and just touch the bottom line.)
- Shoot up through the roof. (Take the line across the “snail” to the right and draw through the top line a little way.)
- Go down through the chimney into the basement. (Curl the line to the left and in a straight line down through the initial small circle, past the bottom line, and create a hook to the left.)
- Look at the beautiful treble clef you’ve just drawn and be proud of yourself!!
You might like to try this on the staff below: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Congratulations to Mrs Egan’s Year Two class for excellent singing last week. They sounded just like a choir as they sang “Fungha Alafiya”, with the actions, while Mrs Burt sang another part. The lovely ladies in the office, Mrs Gregson, Mrs Egan and 2BT all enjoyed hearing them sing.
Most of the excellent raps created by the Year Five and Six children have been assessed and these students have done a great job with the work they were given. While some found the performance element challenging most of them managed enough resilience to get up in front of their peers and fulfil that requirement of the curriculum. Congratulations to all of them! And now they need to get ready for an “Adventure in Music” which is coming up. There will be exacting elements to explore, interesting instruments to investigate, tricky techniques to trial and magnificent music to make. “Crabby fingers” will be required and Mrs Burt promises to “nag” until techniques are being performed correctly!!
Children from Foundation to Year Two have been wondering about autumn and learning an appropriate, rhythmical rhyme. Mrs Lowe had a mysterious box, students became autumn leaves, sounds and movement were explored and there may have been a bear hunt involved somewhere too. Lots of interesting sounds issued forth…….
There will be no “Music Matters” until next term, so please all have a magical, musical holiday and come back safely!
