Music Matters

Thanks again to all involved in our performance evening at the end of last term. Its great to be able to be a little more certain about public performances as COVID restrictions ease. We will be resuming our Twilight Concerts this term in Week 4 albeit with some minor changes. This term’s Twilight Concert will feature our Strings, Choir and Primary Concert Band as they missed out last term. Again, we will be live-streaming the concert. Interestingly we had around 160 logins to our concert proving the popularity and ease of viewing performances. We will also still be under some COVID protocols which are changing daily. As these come to hand I will inform parents. Certainly the length of the concert brought some comment with most appreciating the compact and efficient running time.

As this event will be live-streamed, if you do not wish your son to be filmed, please email privacy@stpius.nsw.edu.au.

Congratulations to Ms Lindley and the Drama Ensembles for their work during the holidays. Ms Lindley will be featuring some of the photos from this project which are absolutely amazing in this Woodchatta. There is still much to do in this project and we anticipate the final product. This project has been supported by PAPA and we thank them for their ongoing support.

This term's PAPA Meeting will be held next Monday night, 26 April, at 7.00 pm.  It will be held both in person at the College and online.  A link will be sent out later this week to join the meeting online.  I look forward to seeing our parents again.

It has been great to acknowledge the work of our students in Ensembles. I plan to continue this and name boys who have worked positively in rehearsals this term. I urge students to keep positive and work hard, especially in the groups who will be presenting performances for the Sydney Eisteddfod.  This will be filmed this year with the hope that we can resume “live” contesting next year.

Drama Matters

During the holidays, the Drama Ensemble students came into school to film their climate movies. We now have four movies under the umbrella of Climate Change: Ocean, Land, Air & Pius. The students involved in the Land & Air movies were the first to work with our production company cblok. The days ran very smoothly, and all students can be commended for their enthusiasm and professionalism. The Land movie was filmed outside in the yard and I thank the maintenance team for accommodating us. This movie was written by Isaac Donlevy and influenced by the Back to the Future movies – our hero’s great, great, great grandfather comes back from the future to persuade our hero that the litter he has just discarded will topple the world into a climate catastrophe.

The Air movie was written by Cooper Anderson and filmed in the gym. As you can see from the photos this movie focused on pollution.  A group of young people are trying to find a safe space where they can survive. The lights and smoke machine really help build mood and atmosphere and the final result looks fantastic.  Great work everyone.

Ocean movie – filming Sunday 16th May

St Pius movie – filming Sunday 23rd May

There will then be 3 Sundays where the editing students will work with cblok to finalise the movies for a public showcase probably in Term 3. These dates are: 30th May, 6 & 13th June (this is only students who are part of the editing).
