2021 House Cross Country

On Wednesday 21st April, Maffra Secondary College held the annual cross country at the Cameron Sporting Complex in Morrison Street Maffra. It was great to see the student’s participating however it was even more pleasing to see the effort with which the majority of students competed.

Once again the students started their cross country by running through a gauntlet of colour then running and walking along paths, around ovals and gravel roads around the sports fields .

The following students placed in their individual events

The final results were very close indeed.

Macalister - 445

Freestone - 420

Thomson - 407

Avon - 405

The Wellington round of cross country will take place in Yarram on Tuesday 18th May. Students who are competing with receive a responsibility form shortly and will travel together by bus.

Years 8 Boys Football

The Year 8 Boys football team kicked off their day with a match against Sale Catholic College. Led out by captain Kev Rondon in glorious conditions, MSC quickly realised that their opposition was a class above. In what at times resembled a training drill for the boys from Sale, 9 goals were piled on in quick succession in the first half. The narrative was not dissimilar in the second half, with another 11 goals added to the onslaught, resulting in a 121 point loss. To the boys’ credit, spirits were still high amongst the playing group, with the focus quickly turning to their next opponents; Sale College. In what seemed a much more even match-up to the eye, MSC’s scoring drought was ended midway through the first half when Will Ruthberg pulled off a miraculous banana kick from a tight angle resulting in a goal, an event which saw the floodgates open. Maffra put the foot down from here on in and piled on goal after goal, with the final scoreboard reading 64-6.

A big thank you to the injured Will Missen & Ruben Corbell who assisted with officiating duties on the day.
