Reporting

Progress Reports (1b) were published in the last week of term 2. Congratulations to the many students who achieved excellence and / or growth in their feedback. Pleasingly, the overall student average of 3.83 is significantly above the benchmark expected level of 3.0. The next cycle of progress reports will be published and available on COMPASS on Tuesday 18th May (week 5).

Semester reports will be published and available on COMPASS on Tuesday 22nd June (week 10).

Assessment

Year 7 & 9 students will participate in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) from May 11-14 (week 4). NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The assessment provides parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance.

All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 are expected to participate in the annual NAPLAN assessment. Students with disability may qualify for adjustments that reflect the support normally provided for classroom assessments. A student with a disability that severely limits their capacity to participate in the assessment, or a student who has recently arrived in Australia and has a non-English speaking background, may be granted a formal exemption. Please contact Nathan.wallace@education.vic.gov.au for more information on special provisions or the process required to gain a formal exemption.

Further information about NAPLAN is provided in the parent brochure included in the newsletter.

Respect

On Friday 23rd April, students across years 7-12 participated in a ceremony to commemorate ANZAC Day. It was a fantastic demonstration of respect as students reflected on what ANZAC day meant to them. I also had the honour of reading a speech written about ANZAC day by the winner of the RSL scholarship, year 11 student Nikita Goodman. I congratulate each student for their conduct on such an important occasion.
