Principal's Update

Thank you to Kevin Cosgriff and the staff at the Mount Beauty Information Centre for their time this week, sharing information with our Year 5 & 6 students about life in the Kiewa Valley.  Over the term, students will be delving into the history of the local area, researching our local indigenous history, the establishment of the Falls Creek resort, the role of the SEC, bushfires and why this area is prone to fire, as well as the local fauna and flora.  If you or someone you know has an extensive knowledge of the history of the Falls Creek resort and/or the SEC, please contact Vicky or Melanie.

Over the next two weeks, students in Years 3 and 5 will sit the NAPLAN tests for Reading, Writing, Grammar and Mathematics.  The tests will be conducted online, with the exception of the Year 3 Writing task.  If for any reason you do not want your child to participate in these assessments, please contact the school before Tuesday 11th May.

Each year, students in Years 4-6 are given the opportunity to participate in an annual student survey, as a means of gathering their feedback about student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction.  During the survey, students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships and life in general.  This year, we will be conducting the survey during the period of Monday 17th May to Friday 11th June.  If you do not wish for your child to participate, please contact the school before the 17th May. Further information can be found at https://www2.education.vic.gov.au/pal/data-collection-surveys/guidance/attitudes-school-survey

On Friday the 14th May, our school will be have the opportunity to fundraise through the Westpeak Community Raffle.  As a social event, it would be wonderful to have as many families attending as possible.  A number of staff and their families will attend to assist with the selling of tickets and we would love to see you there!  All funds raised will go towards the purchase of some new circus equipment for our sports programs.

Parent Teacher interviews will be held during the week commencing 17th May and students are welcome to attend.  Families will have the option to meet with teachers online or face-to-face.  We encourage you to take this opportunity to discuss how your child is going and what you can do to support them at home.

On Monday the 7th June, teachers will be undertaking report writing.  As a result, this will be a pupil-free day, providing families with an additional long-weekend!
