Teaching and Learning

Access to learning in Weeks 1 and 2
As you know Preschool, Reception and Year 1 students will be able to access face to face learning onsite from 2nd February. Other year levels, Years 2-6, will access online learning from 2nd February and return to classes at school from 14th February. More information below.
We thought we might take the opportunity to ask a little about our school community in relation to the modified start to the learning year, in the hope that your answers will support us to provide the best learning the community. The survey is about 5 minutes long. Please fill out a survey for each child in your family. Thank you!
Staged return to school
The start of the 2022 school year has been adjusted to help minimise the peak of COVID-19 cases in South Australia. There will be a staged return to school over the first two weeks of term that balances every child’s learning entitlement with safety and risk management concerns. Face-to-face learning has been prioritised for our youngest learners and for specific year levels that are transitioning. Remote learning will be provided for all other year levels. A summary of the arrangements for the start of term has been provided below.
Monday 31 January and Tuesday 1 February – preparation days
These days will be used by our staff to prepare for remote learning and accommodate the changes to the start of term 1. If you are required to work and do not have appropriate supervision for your child, you can choose to send your child to school to be supervised on these days. No formal learning programs will be provided.
Wednesday 2 February –
Face to face learning for Reception and year 1 students as well as our Preschoolers. For children in these year levels, if you choose to keep your child at home, or if they are required to isolate, a school based remote learning program will not be offered. The Department for Education is developing online learning materials for Reception to year 10 students that your child can access online at
https://www.education.sa.gov.au/our-learning-sa
Remote learning for Years 2 to 6 students. If you are required to attend your workplace and do not have any other appropriate supervision for your children, they can come to school. We will supervise them as they complete their remote learning program.
Monday 14 February – planned return of face-to-face learning for all year levels.
How can I access Online learning?
Our Students in Year 2 will be connecting with their teachers through Seesaw Classroom, and details of how to connect your child with their classroom teacher will be sent to you during the next week via a family email address.
Our students in years 3-6 will be connecting through Microsoft teams. Students should receive their new logins and instructions during the next week via a family email address. For those families with technical or connection issues, please email dl.1904.ictadmin@schools.sa.edu.au or phone 0408 176 255.
Families can also request a paper workpack for their child by contacting the Front Office and giving staff your child’s name, their year level and their class. This will allow us to accurately record attendance as home learners. Hard copy packs will be available for pickup on Tuesday 1st February at the Front Office.
Communication with our families is critical during online learning, so if you have changed email or phone contact over the summer please get in contact with the Front Office (84148600) or send a text to 0408 176 255 with any changes.
As ever, details and updates can be found on the school Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/wgslearning
We look forward to welcoming your children back to school.
