GRANDPARENTS DAY

Year 7 are hosting Grandparents' Day on Friday the 9 March.  We encourage all Grandparents to join their grandchildren in Year 7 for a tour of the College, storytelling and lunch in the Mater Dei Hall.

 

Students who do not have Grandparents on the day will still be buddied up with either another Grandparent or some other guests including residents from The Grange who we have extended the invitation to.

 

We look forward to an exciting day celebrating the role Grandparents play in the lives of our students.

2018 SRC APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN

Student Representative Council applications for 2018 are now open. The MDCC Student Representative Council is made up of our current Year 12 Leaders as well as two representatives from each year group. Application forms can be collected from House Leaders or the front office, and close Monday 25 February. More information about the SRC and their role below.

 

HEADSPACE: FAMILY AND FRIENDS GROUP 

Starting on Tuesday 28 February, Headspace Wagga Wagga will be running a Family and Friends Group for those supporting young people going through a tough time.

 

When: Last Wednesday of the month

Time: 7 for 7:30pm-8:30pm

Where: headspace Wagga Wagga, 2/185 Morgan Street

 

This group is an opportunity to meet other families, get accurate information, share strategies and have a voice in regards to the services available at the centre. The group is free to attend and supper is provided. Please see attached for more information. 

 

 

HEADSPACE: TRANSITIONING TO SECONDARY SCHOOL

 Please find attached a new fact sheet from Headspace National Office which may be of use to Year 7 students struggling with the transition to high school. The fact sheet below outlines strategies for young people as they navigate the transition to secondary school. 

 

COMMITTEE 4 WAGGA WAGGA SCHOOL LEADERS PROGRAM

Congratulations to Mater Dei Year 11 students Blake Smith, Renee Beukers and Gabrielle Shaw who have been selected to participate in the Wagga School Leaders Program this year. The aim of the Wagga School Leaders Program is to build a generation of confident and capable young leaders from within our community. The skills that students gain and the relationships they form will be an invaluable asset for the future and their working careers.

The first of 5 modules commenced this Wednesday, 21 of February. All the very best to our three participants on this exciting leadership venture! Watch this space for more updates as the course progresses.

 

CSO SECONDARY SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY SERVICE: WHAT DOES A SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST DO?

School Psychologists provide direct assistance and interventions to students; consult with teachers, families, and other professionals to improve supports for students; work with school leaders to improve school-wide practices and policies; and collaborate with community providers to coordinate other services that may be needed.
