Foundation News

Welcome to the Start of School!

What a wonderful beginning we have had to the school year. Most children have settled in to the start of their school life remarkably well. There has been much laughter and enjoyment in our learning space, and we are thrilled with the way your children have made the transition from Pre-School to School. There is always something exciting happening in Foundation, so we will keep you updated throughout the year via this newsletter.

The children have already had a lot of fun investigating as part of their learning. They have been introduced to the roles of focus child, reporter and photographer and are engaging in discussions during 'Tuning In' and 'Reflection' sessions. It is really pleasing to see children engage in play, complete differentiated jobs when performing the role of reporter or photographer, and include unfamiliar friends when investigating. We invite you to peruse through the photos to see Foundation children at play.

Homework

This week, Foundation students will be commencing home reading and spelling homework. All students' reading abilities have been assessed, and each student has been assigned books suitable for their level of skill. We would appreciate it if you listen to your child read 5 nights a week. We ask you record a positive comment in your child's Reading Diary each day. Correspondence regarding your child's reading may be made in the Reading Diary. Reading diaries will be reviewed by teachers each Thursday.

We have already introduced our 'word of the week'-cat, and our 'sentence of the week'-'The cat sat on the mat'.

Weask parents to follow the instructions included in your child's Homework Word Book & recommend your child practises reading their spelling words each day. Word Books will be reviewed by teachers every Friday. Each Monday, students will receive their new word & sentence of the week.

Specialist Classes

Specialist classes will take place each Wednesday. As you are aware, Foundation students will not attend school on Wednesday until the Week beginning Monday 28th February. We will send a reminder via SkoolBag when specialist lessons commence.

Library

Students will need to have a library bag in order to borrow a library book. Foundation students will visit the library each Friday afternoon, as of this week.

Class Mascots

This year our two class mascots are Pogo & Bailey. The children are very excited to have the opportunity to take one of the mascots home over a weekend. A book goes home along with each mascot that each child can record their adventures in. Photos are much appreciated!

Each Friday afternoon, students get to share their adventures with their teachers and peers. We look forward to hearing about our mascots' adventures.
