St Raphael's School
Welcome To PE For 2022!
This year will hopefully be a big year with many major highlights on the St Raphael's sporting calendar. To start the year our major focus will be athletics, as the Years 3 -6 students prepare for the school athletics trials at Coburg Athletics Track on Friday March 11. Each week before then the students will spend the majority of their PE lessons focusing on a different athletics discipline. This will begin next week with Long Jump followed by Triple Jump. After the student's jumping has been refined the focus will then shift to throwing over the ensuing weeks firstly by practising the Shot Put and then the Discus.
The Year 1/2 students will begin the year engaging in team building and tag based games as they practice working together as well as the importance of time and space. The Foundation students are currently scheduled to start PE classes in Week 6.
School Sport Victoria
Last year we were in the enviable position of seeing two of our students make it all the way through to School Sport Victoria teams. Keira Sarris was successful in being selected in the state girl's soccer team while Justin Rametta also made it through to the state boy's soccer team. These were remarkable achievements that eventuated after a long trialling process over many months.
If your child has a strong skill set as well as passion for a particular sport then it may be worth considering applying to trial for that team. School Sport Victoria offer a number of teams across a range of different sports. Applications for this year's teams will be opening shortly, although dates vary across the different sports.
