SERVICE

Service means looking for ways to help others. There are many ways in which we can help others, such as:

  • Paying someone a compliment
  • Volunteering your time; giving assistance
  • Being friendly – acknowledging people and giving them a smile
  • Donating to charity
  • Showing someone how to do something – teaching them a new skill
  • Doing chores for someone
  • Performing Random Acts of Kindness

Due to the interruption of lockdown and remote learning we did not get to celebrate Service week at school. We have decided to try again, now we have returned onsite. This year we have chosen to support a local charity called CHIPS. CHIPS is an award winning, non-profit children’s charity based in the City of Casey, dedicated to assisting children & their communities with Emotional First Aid & Well-Being support through Trauma Informed Practices.

CHIPS has three main purposes:

1. To restore hurting, troubled, primary aged children & their families (who have experienced trauma, grief or loss in their lives) by connecting them with positive people through in school & out-of-school programs.

2. Assist & support whole primary school communities by linking them with local agencies & community groups to help establish on-going family support for families in crisis.

3. Recruit & train volunteers from all beliefs and backgrounds to support primary school communities.

CHIPS has supported Lyndhurst Primary School by providing free whole day excursions and camps for many of our students. It is our turn to give back and support this amazing charity.

Each year CHIPS provides local families in need with a Christmas Hamper. Last year, CHIPS was able to provide 110 Christmas Hampers to families who were impacted by the effects of Covid and the various lockdowns. CHIPS Hampers are such an important way of letting families know that no matter what is happening in their world, they are important, valued and thought of.

During ‘Service Week’ this year, our mission is to collect as many food items as possible to put into these Christmas Hampers. As each hamper needs to be identical, we ask that the food items donated are exactly as stated. Each year level has a specific food item to donate. We would love it if next time you’re at the supermarket you could purchase a food item to donate to this worthy cause. Food items can be put into the donation boxes outside the library by Wednesday 24th November.
