Maths

The past fortnight we have been learning all about place value. The students have been using many different tools to help them understand the value of each number. Students engaged in an activity called 'Tower of Terror', where they had to use MAB blocks to create a tower. They recorded the standard form (234) and the expanded form (200, 30 and 4). Students used this new knowledge with another activity, where instead they used expander cards. When explaining this concept, we referred to a slinky, where when it is closed it is standard form and when it is stretched it is expanded form.

Writing

Last week we were extremely lucky to have a special guest in our classroom. Although some of you know this person as Miss Melissa, she is also an extremely talented author! Miss Melissa wrote and illustrated the book 'Luna leads the way'. She came into our classroom to discuss the writing process and allowed the students to ask her any questions.

Inquiry - Innovation

This week in Inquiry, we have started looking at the features of different animals and what these animals need to adapt to their environment. Students undertook a mini project, where they created an animal profile. This included key features (including survival features), their habitat and what foods they eat. Over the next few weeks, students are going to be exploring how animals innovate.

Student Representative Council

Last week the students all voted for the person who they think has the qualities to represent us in our classroom.  After tallying the votes, we are proud to announce that Sebastian F has been chosen for 2022 SRC in 3/4V.
