Prep

The Prep students have been at school for 11 days! Well done Preps for doing such a fabulous job.

Maths

In Maths, we are learning about sorting, categorising and making patterns with objects. On Monday, the students were given a plate with various things, and they were asked to sort their objects in different ways. Some students sorted the objects by colour, size, the movement of an animal or vehicle, and animal species.

Anissa - I sorted my objects into vehicles, animals, dinosaurs and fruit

Charlie S - I have a group of vehicles, pterodactyls, brontosaurus and bugs

Elliot - I sorted the objects by colour, size. They go from big to small.

Patricia - I put my objects in different groups. These objects have the same shape, these ones are straight, these are vehicles, dinosaurs and the same colour.

Pip - I sorted the counters into bugs, dinosaurs, slow animals, walking animals, flying animals and jumping animals.

On Tuesday, the students were introduced to patterns; we read part of the story 'Teddy Bear Patterns'. Next, the students gathered a variety of objects, and they created different patterns.

We have also been practising the correct formation of writing numerals.

Education in Faith / Inquiry

Education in Faith

We have continued to use prayer in a range of different ways, including stories, music and meditation. As a class, we created a home time prayer. The students brainstormed different words and phrases that they thought were appropriate for prayer at the end of the school day.

During Ed in Faith lessons, we discussed what makes us special and read the story 'Only One You' by Linda Kranz. The students shared why they are special. The students then created their special fish to represent themselves. No one is the same; we are all special, different and unique.

Next week we will be discussing 'Who is God?'

Inquiry

That's my hat! is the name of our Inquiry project this term. During Inquiry, we will investigate, explore, and experiment with different materials and identify which materials will be suitable to decorate our party hats. We will be conducting experiments using our five senses to investigate the properties of various materials. This week the students sorted different materials into categories, using their five senses to describe the properties of the materials.
