Mr Cameron and Miss Judy

Welcome back Miss Judy!

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Miss Judy back to the classroom. Sadly at the end of last year, Miss Judy suffered a mishap and suffered a broken leg and has been on the mend and unable to start the year with the students until today.

Writing

Our focus for the last few weeks has been on capturing the interest of a reader by writing starts with impact - or Sizzling Starts. These beginnings can use humour, action, change, dialogue or intrigue and our students have responded enthusiastically. Each day students have attempted a different story starter.

Here are some great examples:

Alik:

Fred needed to blink twice as he couldn't believe what he saw. Fred was seeing a strange man. He opens the door... Fred needed to calm down... Randomly a strange girrafe came. Fred said "huh?! What is happening? and a monkey, with a lion? it was extremely strange.

Maria:

Mindy ran away as fast as she can, her white dress dragged across the ground, suddenly she tripped over something very hard and fell on the ground, she looked at the thing that she tripped over, her jaw dropped she couldn't believe on what she tripped over.

Maths

Our focus for maths has been on place value, where we recognise that numbers are made up of digits and the value of each digit is determined by its place. We've remembered that zero (0) is a placeholder for where there are no digits of a particular value and that each place is valued at ten times more than the one on its left. So that 10 ones make 1 ten, and 10 tens are the same as 1 Hundred.

We found that to count to one million will take more than 1 week and 4 days!

Student Representative Council

We had a number of enthusiastic students wishing to be our class delegate to the Student Representative Council (SRC). After a secret ballot, it is with great pleasure that we acknowledge Kira B as the SRC for Grade 5/6C, congratulations Kira.
