3/4 B

Week 4 Term 1

Literacy

Last week Ms Melissa came into to the 3/4 classrooms to chat to the students about 'what good writers do'. Melissa herself is an author who has recently published her very own book titled Luna Leads the Way. She spoke to the students about the importance of planning and generating ideas before even beginning to write. Some of the key takeaways from her visit included the think, talk, draw strategy. Melissa was kind enough to show the students her notes and planning along with her sketches and illustrations when planning Luna Leads the Way.

In Reading, the children have been using our school library books and an online library of books from Epic Reading to read about an area of interest. Their three choices of interest were animals, the solar system or technology. From there, they narrowed their reading to one particular topic. They've begun compiling facts to share with the class.

Maths

Our focus for the first few weeks of Term 1 has been Place Value. The children have participated in a variety of different whole class and small group activities to consolidate their understanding of the place value system. Games such as Roll it, Place it and Place Value War are great ways to practise this concept whilst having fun at the same time. They also enjoyed small group activities such as Tower of Terror and Make 100.

Three Great Things

At the end of every week the students pause to reflect on their week and think of 'Three Great Things' that may have happened to them or they learnt at school. It's a great opportunity to be grateful for the Good Moments in our life and not take even the smallest things for granted. Maybe at the end of the week you could ask your child to share with you their Three Great Things! Some things that the students mentioned this past fortnight included: being back at school, Kinnect to Dance with Ivy, making new friends, having great teachers ;) and having a delicious home made lunch everyday.

Student Representative Council

This week we chose our class SRC. Students nominated themselves to be included in the voting process and after a class meeting to discuss the roles and responsibilities of the SRC and the characteristics of a good SRC, the students voted on who they believed could represent them at the regular meetings and special events. I'm please to announce this year's SRC for 3/4B is...Gabriel D. Congratulations Gabriel!
