Commerce

On behalf of the Mazenod College Commerce Department, I would like to welcome everyone to 2022 academic studies with a prayer that the year does not deliver the same upheaval as those we have put behind us.

Saying that this is a time of year that allows up to reflect on the year just past as well as looking forward with anticipation on what the new academic year and its students may bring. From a results perspective, the Commerce Department has enjoyed a highly successful year, and all students who undertook a commerce subject must be commended for their academic results. Some of the department’s VCE results highlights include:

Business Management

  • A perfect study score of 50 was achieved by Mr Jacob Luu
  • 11 students achieved a study score of 40 or above, placing them in the top 9% in the state, and
  • An overall study score median of 32, significantly outperforming the state median of 30

Legal Studies

  • Three students achieved a study score of 40 or above, and
  • An overall study score median of 34, significantly outperforming the state median of 30.

Congratulations to all teachers in our Commerce Department, the achieved results are definitely a team effort!

Looking forward to 2022, we anticipate another busy year in front of us as our subject and student numbers grow. We welcome the following new teachers to our team in 2022 and look forward to benefitting from their experience and enthusiasm. We would like to introduce;

Dr Mark Bowden – Mark has joined us after many years lecturing in Economics in the Tertiary Sector. Mark will be Teaching VCE Economics this year, as well as VCE Business Management and Year 9 Financial Literacy. Welcome to Mazenod College Mark!

Mr Joshua Hunter – Josh has made a part move into the Commerce Department, teaching Year 10 Commerce and VCE Small Business Operations in 2022. Small Business Operations is a new subject offered by Mazenod in 2022, and Josh has willingly agreed to provide his expertise in the subject area. Welcome aboard Josh!

Finally, I’d like to thank Mr Alan McAlister for taking on the task of developing a new course for our Year 10 students; Enhancement Business Management. Given the popularity of Business Management as an area of study in VCE, this subject gives students an accelerated pathway into VCE studies.

Thank you to everyone for your support of Commerce studies at Mazenod College, as we continue to grow the faculty in 2022.

Mr Chris Windley

Head of Commerce
