Reflections on Faith

From the desk of the Religious Education Coordinator - Miss McMeniman

Coming to the end of Week 4 of Term 1 and our students have been actively engaged in Religious Education lessons.

In Stage 3 we have been exploring  the Church’s mission to build a just world. Justice is an important element in bringing about the Reign of God. Students have been exploring examples of injustice and how the Church continues the mission of Jesus by working for justice. In their exploration, students will be looking at decision-making and conscience.

Stage 2 have been exploring the ‘law of love’. Students have begun by recalling the purpose of rules in groups and communities. They are going on to examine the Ten Commandments, focusing on their purpose and principles for living in relationship with God and each other.  This learning leads to a deeper understanding of how the Commandments and Jesus’ ‘new commandment’ guide us in living in relationship with God and others.

Stage 1 are being introduced to and exploring a variety of biblical images of God that tell something of what God is like. They will be focusing on prayer as a means of nourishing the Spirit of God in our lives and reflecting on the ‘Our Father’.

Kindergarten have been welcomed to religious education by establishing simple prayer routines with a focus on the Sign of the Cross. They have been introduced to key symbols and religious objects in the school and will be exploring the parish environment. Kindergarten have been introduced to sacred space, a prayer place and the importance of time to pray.
