4th Preston Scout Group

The group started 90 years ago but was dormant for about 20 years.  In mid-2017, Scouts Victoria helped to re-start our group.  A number of parents volunteered to become Scout Leaders and we are building a Scouting community that engages children in an exciting and supportive environment (that is youth directed) and provides them an opportunity to develop life skills in a fun, engaging and safe environment.

Additional Information:

We currently have about 30 youth members evenly split between girls and boys.  Scouting fees are affordable and the first four trial visits are free.

We provide programs for:

·Joeys (age 5-7)  Wed 6-7pm;

·Cubs (age 8-11) Wed 7-8:30pm; and

·Scouts (age 11-14) Thurs 7-9pm

Our Hall is located at 744 Plenty Road, Reservoir.

Italian News

Students in 3-6 have been learning how to translate verbs and use them in their everyday communication within the classroom. Ask your child how to ask to go to the toilet/restroom in Italian!

“Posso andare in bagno?” (pronounce the gn like you would for lasagne or gnocchi).

We have also looked at how to express “mi piace”- I like and “non mi piace”- I don’t like.

Grazie to all those involved in pasta day this venerdi, the children love having a special cooked lunch.

Preparations are underway for St. Mary’s Italian Day on Tuesday September 3rd. We will be giving all the students an ice cream in a cone, please send in a note to the office if your child has allergies so that we can organise an alternative. More information about the day will be sent out next week.

Book Week Character Parade!

We celebrated Book Week 2019, 'Reading Is My Secret Power!' with a fabulous display of book characters parading our school grounds. A brilliant effort put in by all students and families to highlight the importance of books and how they can take us on wonderful journeys. Congratulations to all students and staff for their creativity, enthusiasm and beautiful smiles!

PARENTS & FRIENDS

NEW AND EXCITING THINGS ARE COMING!!

The Parents & and Friends are a group of parents from the school community who run events

throughout the year to raise funds to give back to our students at school, whether it be learning

materials, furniture or games and activities.

This yeah we have spent our raised funds on take home readers, maths competition, and protective

pads for the poles in the yard.

Keep a look out – more things are coming!! Over the next month we will bring the students some

KICKBricks to use during play and lunch times, as well as some interactive play panels for the yard.

We are also in the process of finishing the pads on the remainder poles and getting a shade sail for

the sand pit.

These things require a lot of money and that is why it is important to help support our events so we

can give back to the students.

Thank you all for your ongoing generosity to make these events successful.
