HCC 21st Birthday Celebrations: 26 October
HCC celebrated our 21st Birthday Anniversary with past students and staff on the afternoon of Saturday 26 October. We had school tours, afternoon tea together and had Pastor Dan Parker as our guest speaker. We enjoyed displays of past important events throughout the 21 years. Some of the significant events we reminisced about and gave thanks for included having our first Year 12 graduating class in 2007; the remarkable story of enrolling ten new students in a day which enabled us to qualify for a $2m grant to build our gym; many missions trip stories; and the challenge and eventual triumph of having our land re-zoned out of the green wedge.
This celebratory event were a great time to catch up with old friends. It was an opportunity to reconnect and renew relationships that were built during their time here at HCC. We also encouraged past students to make use of this opportunity to arrange for year level reunions after the official timeslot.
We have so much to be thankful for – there are so many stories over these 21 years of children’s, families’ and staff’s lives being changed and touched through God and the dedicated work of our staff.

'Heatherton Creates' Arts Week
Heatherton Christian College celebrated their annual Arts Week last week – the Heatherton Creates Arts Festival! It was a week where our students had the opportunity to share their many talents with the school and wider community and encompassed many areas of our Arts Faculty including Music, Art and Design, Drama and LOTE.
There was an assembly event every morning showcasing various groups, lunchtime activities for students, as well as our Art Show running all week. A huge congratulations to all students who were involved in this week. We are so proud to be able to showcase our students' creativity
Spring Concert
HCC concluded Arts Week with our Spring Concert where students had the opportunity to share their commitment and diligence in both the Music and Art department with family and friends.
Year 8 Science
A few students have chosen to make a solar-powered toy car as part of their Science project on Energy. They also had to do a presentation to the class which included an explanation on how it was made, how it works and a demonstration. Students had to source the solar panels, motors, wires and other parts individually and put them together themselves as kits were not allowed. They were all very unique as shown in the photos below!

Grade 5/6 (Term 4) Market Day
As a part of the Grade 5/6 classroom economy, students took part in a ‘Market Stall’ Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) project. Students planned, promoted, stocked and sold items to Grade 4, 5 and 6 students (for ‘Benson Bucks’). Time was provided in class to create promotions for the stalls, with homework time spent as an optional extension (with minimal parental assistance). Way to go, Upper Primary students!

Emily Ryan (Year 10) – Southern United Football Club (Women’s National Premier League)
PS4 Women's National Premier League Victoria is the highest tier of women's football in Victoria and it underpins the Westfield W-League in Australia. The National Premier League is an elite competition offering player development and a direct pathway to the Matildas. For a junior player (of Emily’s age), this is the highest level of Club Football that can be played before the W-League. Players from Victoria aspire to play not only for either Melbourne Victory or Melbourne City but maybe one day the Matildas.
To make the squad, extensive trialling is required every year. Emily has been a member of the all-conquering Southern United junior teams for 4 years in a row. This season the team competed in their 3rd Grand Final and Emily was the Coaches’ nomination for Best on Ground.
Such was Emily’s consistency and tenacious competitive spirit that she won both the prestigious 2019 Southern United’s Rising Star Award and the U16s Best & Fairest.
To wrap up her outstanding season, Emily was invited to trial at the National Training Centre (NTC U17 Girls Program) – it is Football Australia’s key pillar development model with the main purpose of preparing talented players to achieve Senior NPLW, W-League and international representation with the Junior Matildas. Well done, Emily!

Presentation Night 2019 Tickets Go on Sale Wednesday 13 November at 10:00am
Presentation Night is fast approaching and is the biggest and most important event on the College calendar. It is always a very special and memorable night. We are once again holding Presentation Night offsite at Kingston Arts Centre/Kingston City Hall (corner Nepean Hwy and South Road in Moorabbin) and it is on Wednesday 4 December at 7:00pm. Presentation Night is for all students and families of HCC from Prep-Year 12, every student is expected to attend.
We are expecting a large crowd and have taken steps to allocate seating in a fairway. Everyone attending Presentation Night will be required to book and pay for a seat, except for current HCC students. You do not need to purchase seats for any children attending the school, as they have already been allocated seating with their fellow class students and teacher.
This year, we are again offering an optional early exit for students in Prep-Grade 2. To give parents of the younger children the option of an earlier night for the children. If parents choose to leave at this exit time, we request that you do so quickly and quietly. This will be at approximately 8:15pm, at the end of the Primary awards. The expected finish time of Presentation Night is 9:30pm.
Ticket Sales Information
The booking of seats will be handled by Kingston Arts Centre, not the College. The cost of staging Presentation Night is considerable, necessitating a charge of $12 per seat. We have maintained the cost of seats as the same price since 2017.
- Tickets will go on sale Wednesday 13 November from 10:00am.
- Tickets are ALLOCATED (numbered) seats. Consequently, it is a good idea to know exactly how many tickets you require at the time of booking. Booking extra tickets later means there is no guarantee that all your seats will be together. Previous experience has been that about two thirds of tickets available are sold on the first day when ticket sales open.
Prices:
- Ticket prices are $12.00. No concession, student or child price tickets.
- Children under 2 years are free if seated on an adult’s knee.
Ticket Booking Options:
- Internet Sales: Bookings can be made online at: https://www.kingstonarts.com.au/PERFORMANCE/SCHOOL-PRODUCTIONS under the Theatre/School Productions section. Box Office: Opening hours on Friday 9 November are 10:00am – 4:30pm. All other days, the Box Office is open Monday to Friday 9:00am – 4:30pm.

AWARDS
An important part of Presentation Night is the awarding of various prizes. Each year people in the HCC community are given the opportunity to sponsor a prize at Presentation Night at the cost of $30. Sponsor names are acknowledged in the Presentation Night program or you may wish to do this anonymously.
If you would like to sponsor an award/awards, please contact the College office on 8551 6650 or email us at office@hcc.vic.edu.au. Businesses are welcome to sponsor awards.
CAR PARKING
There is very limited carparking available beneath the Town Hall and this year it will be prioritized for disabled parking and families with a family member of limited mobility. If this applies to your family, please email the College office requesting a reserved parking spot. This will need to be done by Wednesday 27 November.
A separate letter outlining parking options around the Town Hall will be sent out closer to the night. We do strongly encourage you to seek an early arrival on Wednesday 4 December, to allow sufficient time for parking and making your way to the venue.
It promises to be a great night once again and we are looking forward to seeing you as we celebrate all that has been achieved in the lives of our students in 2019.
