Science Update

Science Week

Term 3 for the Science Learning Area focused on another successful Science Week. The week took place from the 27th to the 31st of August, and what a great atmosphere and show of enthusiasm for Science! We started off the week with our Science Kahoot which was enjoyed by many, participating in various science questions that got the mind jogging for the week. Following this on Tuesday, we began the Egg Drop competition where students were able to construct a vessel for their egg. Each vessel was made to protect the egg from the height of the Learning Common. The aim was to construct the safest and ‘cheapest’ vessel using materials such as rubber gloves, plastic bags, string, egg cartons and bubble wrap. On the Wednesday, students were able to participate in our annual Scavenger Hunt where they searched around the school for a list of items that they had to photograph and collect. Items such as: an angiosperm, something umami and someone showing convergence. Spaghetti Bridge Building was another fun and innovative activity which brought many students together to show their competitive and creative sides on the Thursday. Last but not least, our marvellous Science Fair which was a great success, allowing everyone to have a taste of what Science has to offer, in the most enjoyable and hands-on way. All in all, Science Week could not have happened, nor could it have been as successful, if it weren’t for all the teachers and students who put in the hard work and effort to make it the outstanding week that it was.
