ART/ENGLISH EXCURSION TO THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF VICTORIA

On Monday 27 May, 7L and 7F art classes headed off to the city to visit the iconic National Gallery of Victoria in a thrilling excursion. Although the weather was very wet and miserable, we arrived at the NGV with a smile on our dial and a spring in our step. After separating into activity groups, we explored a wide range of exhibitions and paintings with our tour guides.

Our wonderful guides took us to the scene of the artwork through their storytelling, where we discussed and analysed the beautiful pieces. We discovered the history behind many famous artworks, including Picasso’s Weeping Woman. After a well-earned lunch break from the students, teachers and guides, we were all buzzing to start creating art inspired by the pieces we had seen through our exploration.

Our artwork was based on Leonard French’s stained glass ceiling, which is a major feature of the gallery, which we were lucky enough to explore. We were encouraged to create our own masterpiece on a clear plastic sheet (so it would have the same effect as a stained glass ceiling). Overall, it was an incredible experience and I’m sure the other students would agree with me in saying that we are very grateful for the art staff and the NGV tour guides for making this excursion possible!

YEAR 9 DANCE WORKSHOP

On Friday 10 May, my fellow classmates and I in the Year 9 dance Elective, were lucky enough to have the opportunity to take part in some dance workshops in Prahran at The Space.

Our first workshop was Broadway Jazz with Matthew Dear and our second workshop was Hip Hop with Brad Griffith. This was especially fun for me as I had never done these specific styles of dance before. This is exactly what I really enjoy about the Year 9 Dance Elective. I get to enjoy and learn about different styles of dance that I do not normally participate in and learn about.

This excursion was such a fantastic experience and it was great learning from different teachers and hearing different opinions. I also found learning from different teaching styles really interesting and seeing how different teachers teach, not to mention being taught new things. It was great getting to spend this day with my friends as well and getting to dance with them. For anyone considering doing dance as an elective in Year 9, I would definitely recommend it as it is such a fun experience and is great even if you don’t dance outside of school.
