SWPBS

Congratulations to the students who achieved 20 value cards last week! So many students showing excellence.

The whole school is fast approaching 2000 cards. We are looking forward to celebrating this achievement with a SCHOOL DISCO.

Acknowledging positive behaviour choices is a key component of SWPBS. Giving out value cards helps focus teacher attention on positive student choices and on giving specific praise to help students learning to meet expectations. Research tells us: “Praise is a powerful tool for educators. When used effectively in the classroom, it can increase the social and academic performance of students, as well as improve classroom climate.”

The ‘reward’ system the community chose at Newham PS is non-material and mostly group-based, so that we are celebrating positive behaviour together, by doing fun things together. That way, we all feel good, and the better we feel, the easier it is to make good choices.

SWPBS Parent Survey

We're conducting our annual review of SWPBS (School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support) at our school. We're getting feedback from students and all staff, and would really appreciate families’ perspectives too.

Please could you fill out the brief survey following this link: SWPBS Annual Review - Parent Survey

Or copy this one: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSebiQMBjftVyaIb_1fQV_fojas1yrs3Vs6Z8nRIJFRbLDfSkA/viewform?usp=sf_link

We are grateful for the input from families who have already responded. Thank you!

The year 1/2's working together to create Christmas windows.

Amazing Students’ Participation in the Kyneton Show

If you went to the Kyneton Show last weekend, you may have been lucky enough to see some of our amazing students’ work.

About 14 students showed that wonderful combination of courage and vulnerability by creating works to share with the community. As well as our whole school display, students entered the individual drawing, painting and creative writing sections.

Well done to everyone who participated, including Darcy, Sophie R, Emmett, Quinn, Miranda, Lillian, Iris, Lewis, Olivia, Alice, Coen, Luke, Freya and Jessie.

A special congratulations to the people who received prizes and special commendations. Lillian won First and Second prize for her drawings. Miranda won Second Place for her poetry collection. Sophie R received a Highly Commended for her painting of the Gold Rush. Emmett received a Highly Commended for his drawing, “Oversized Pokémon Card”, Quinn received a Highly Commended for her drawing of “Jeff”.

We’re so proud of everyone’s efforts! Well done!
