Parents & Friends News

Trivia Night

An absolutely huge thank you first must go to Kerri and Dave for hosting the evening and also for the help of Jo in planning and organising the entire night’s entertainment. It was absolutely brilliant and we know that more than one late night went into that preparation (even though you made it look very easy) so thanks for your amazing effort.

Thank you as well to all the local businesses and supporters who donated items as auction items and prizes on the evening.

I particularly want to acknowledge the support of Hunter Gatherer who donated the wine to be sold across the bar for the evening, including the Shiraz, Chardonnay and Rose. The wine was delicious and it made a big contribution to the funds that we were able to raise on the night.

I also wanted to call out a couple of individuals (in addition to the wonderful local businesses) who made donations for the evening:

o   Pete B and Pete S for being willing to be auctioned off and donating a day’s labour to the lucky winner. And an extra shout-out to Pete B for also donating some of his pottery – if you haven’t seen it check it out, he’s very talented

o   Josh and Gemma for kindly donating a half-day fishing trip on Port Phillip Bay and signing up for the 4am start to make that happen

o   Liz and Scott for donating a magnum of wine to be auctioned off as well as a copy of Scott’s new book ‘Barefoot Kids’.

We were also incredibly lucky to have the support of so many local businesses for our evening. Many of these businesses have supported our events multiple times over the years and we are incredibly appreciative of their ongoing support. The list includes:

-       Adjust Pilates

-       Animus Distillery

-       Black Forest Meats

-       Black Hill Apiaries

-       Change it Up Training

-       Chris 'Roy' Taylor

-       Daylesford Country Retreats

-       Hanging Rock Wines

-       Hesket Estate

-       Hunter Gatherer

-       Kuzu Izakaya

-       Lyons Will Estate

-       Macedon Ranges Tennis Coaching

-       Mort & Pestle

-       Mount Towrong

-       Newham General Store

-       Newham Landcare

-       School'sOut!

-       The Convent Daylesford

-       The Vic Hotel

-       Walkinshaw Sports

-       Woodend General

-       Woodend Hardware

-       Woodend Nursery & Garden Supplies

When you’re out and about please think about supporting these fabulous businesses who have supported us so generously.

With all of this amazing support and entertainment we have been able to raise $6,308 from the evening. A fabulous effort and a big shout out to all the Parents & Friends supporters for their effort making the event such a success.

2022 Virtual School Concert

This year we have decided to do a virtual concert again just to make sure everyone is as well as they can be before holidays start. I am sorry for the disappointment this may create for some people, but we felt strongly about the health and well-being of everyone when this decision was made.

We are a couple of weeks away from filming our VIRTUAL concert for you and I am so proud of your children for their hard work, resilience, and support that they are giving each other along the way. The costumes this year are very simple and will help to make the students feel special and extra excited. Your help in organising a couple of items is greatly appreciated.

Our theme is “Step Back in Time”.

Preps will be singing YMCA – 1970’s

Students have been allocated a costume or an outfit that suits the clothing of the era and song. Girls will need to wear black leggings and if you wish, they can wear a singlet under the disco pinafores we are supplying.

Grade 1/2  will be singing ‘SING SING SING’ 1940S

All students will need a white T-shirt and girls might want to wear some leggings for ease of movement. The school will be supplying army and navy uniforms.

Grade 3 will be singing ‘ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK’ 1950S

Boys will need a plain white T-shirt and jeans or long pants similar in style. Girls will be supplied with a circle skirt and will need to supply a bright coloured plain T-shirt and leggings.

Grade 4/5/6 A will be singing ‘TONIGHT TONIGHT’ 1990s

The school will be supplying cool hats for the boys and a special top for the girls. Both boys and girls will need long dark pants or jeans and a plain white t-shirt for boys and a black t-shirt for girls (to put under the tops we supply).

Grade 4/5/6 B will be singing ‘EYE OF THE TIGER’ 1980S

The school will be supplying “CHOOSE LIFE” T-shirts for the boys and we ask that you supply comfortable long pants (jeans). Girls will be supplied with bright coloured skirts and tops but will need a black t-shirt for underneath the top and leggings for under the skirt.

Filming will be on Friday December 9th and a link to the videos will be available (all going well) sometime in the following week so you can organise an OPENING NIGHT with your friends and family. Students are most welcome to wear their costumes to school (except for what the school is supplying) on the day or alternately, they can change at school.

Thanks for your support,

Katrina Hood

2 sessions of PARKOUR coming our way

‘Walk the Walls’ mobile Parkour is coming to Newham Primary School to help us celebrate the end of the year.                                                                                                                                         (Students will be required to wear sturdy sneakers and clothing in which they can move freely, on these days).

On Friday 2nd and 9th December, Cam, and Flynn from ‘Walk the walls’ will be taking each class through a skills and drills session in the basics of Parkour. ‘Walk the walls’ is a professional company and a member of the Australian Parkour Association (APA). Below is the list of the aims and objectives of Parkour companies under the APA.

The Australian Parkour Association (APA) is the pre-eminent organisation for the development of parkour in Australia. Walk the Walls parkour aims to represent the ideals held by the APA as well as the wider parkour community in the following ways:

  • To provide services and resources to facilitate the learning of and participation in Parkour.
  • To provide the opportunity for individuals to learn about and participate in Parkour.
  • To provide a ‘safe’ learning environment for all participants.
  • To uphold the ethics of Parkour within the association and to transmit these ethics to all practitioners.
  • To represent both Parkour in Australia and its practitioners in a positive light, within and outside of Australia.
  • To promote the accurate transmission and portrayal of Parkour in Australia.

They have provided all the relevant risk assessment documentation to the school. You may even have seen them at community shows and fairs in our district. Should families have any questions relating to this event, please contact Rai in 456A. She is our community contact for ‘Walk the Walls’.

Assembly Information

At assembly on Friday 2nd of December, there will be a guitar demonstration by some of our students accompanied by Aaron their teacher who will give a little information about guitar here at school.

If you are interested in your child learning keyboard or guitar in 2023, please come along and see the demonstration and pick up a registration form from the office.

Transition Days

There are a number of transition Days coming up in early December.

For non-government schools, please check with the information coming from your chosen secondary school as to the correct date for your child’s transition session.

For Government secondary schools there are some early transition dates arranged for students (not all children heading to secondary school will be doing these) but the main transition day which is state-wide is on Tuesday 13th December. On this day all Victorian Government schools will hold their main transition session. Students transferring to/from other Government schools may also visit their new school on this day (if arrangements to do so have been made with the new school). On this day our Year sixes will go to secondary school while our preps will attend their final transition. All our students will spend a session on this day with their teacher for 2023.

Prep Transition Day: Wednesday 7th December

The next Prep transition day will be Wednesday 7th December. This time, all our new Preps will be able to spend a session together just prior to lunch (12pm – 1.10pm). Please refer to the information sent out to families via uEducateUs for details.

Year 6 Graduation and Farewell Friday 16th December

It is getting very close to the end of the year and time to say goodbye to our year sixes. The general store is going to be doing a lovely afternoon tea for the send-off and there will be some special personalised cakes for the tea as well. We do need a lot of parent support to get busy with the setting up and decorating for the farewell ceremony out the main gate and for the evening here at school. If the year 6 parents or any other parents would like to help with the decorations, please see Jacqueline and Rai as soon as possible.
