KSC students star at the All Schools Track and Field Championships

We are very proud of our students who competed recently at the Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships. Returning to Lakeside Stadium, the Championships  provided competition for secondary aged students (Under 14 – Under 20) across two weekends. The event offered a combined opportunity for students from private and public schools alike and saw athletes compete against one another in their preferred discipline. Athletes  competed for personal bests and the opportunity to represent their state at the Australian All Schools Track & Field Championships.

Year 8 Boys Cricket Finals

After some weeks of heavy rain making the fields unplayable (actually under 50cm of water) and regional finals postponed, they were finally able to play on Monday 7 November.

The format is playing a quarter-final in the morning, then two winners of these competitions playing off in the afternoon in the semi-final. A loss in the quarter-final meant it was the end of the process.

Koonung was to play Camberwell in the first game of the day. Losing the toss the boys were to bowl first. With an early wicket Camberwell were 1 for 5 with wickets falling regularly but at the end of their 20 overs they had reached 89 runs.  Wicket takers being Zac M (2), Tarkyn  C(2), Jadon F (2) with 2 runouts.

Koonung commenced the chase with an outstanding opening stand of 74 by Harvey C (34 runs) and Tarkyn (38 runs).  Success was virtually assured finally passing Camberwell’s score in the 19th over.

The semi-final was against Mt Waverley who had comfortably beaten Lilydale in their early game. Koonung lost the toss and had to bowl first again. Mt Waverly used the rules of the competition to their advantage leaving their bowlers out of the batting list then swapping them in to bowl. This created quite along batting order of hard hitting and competent batters. Koonung held them to 133.

When it was Koonung’s time to bat, it was not a great start losing 2 wickets with only 4 runs on the board, making the chase a very challenging one. In the end only two batsmen could get into double figures, Jude C (20 runs) and Tarkyn C (56 runs), finishing with 110 runs.

The boys all played exceptionally well with catches taken by Nick (4), Harvey (2), Lucas, Matt, Tarkyn and Jude.

It was a very cohesive and supportive group of students, who had fun and enjoyed the experience. They represented themselves and Koonung exceptionally well on the day.
