Budja:

Wow, it was a busy week at Kinder for our Budja class!

We started the week harvesting from our Veggie patch and sharing veggies from our home gardens. The children loved this process, they have been checking the veggie patch each day, pulling off bugs and watering and watching the leaves grow. Sharing from our children's gardens extended this learning even further, and we then cut the veggies up and made a vegetarian fried rice. The whole experience was incredible, there was so much numeracy, literacy and planning skills that occurred through this process and the discussions during and since have broadened to learning around our physiology and how we grow and stay healthy.

We made the most of the beautiful weather, enjoying the cooling trickle stream and mist, participating in some complex turn-based games and engaging in the Early Childhood language program with Cristina, as she melded science and language together.

We are looking forward to another incredible week ahead.

Marram:

The Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework encourages ‘children to resource their own learning through connecting with people, place, technologies and natural and processed materials’. We encourage children to be active agents in their own learning and over the past year have watched children becoming increasingly confident in self-selecting experiences. As educators we provide a range of activities and resources, but the children are initiating their own experiences. Each child follows their own interests, which is where the great drive for learning lies. The photographs that were taken this week capture the deep engagement of children in the program as they follow and extend their own interests with enthusiasm, energy and concentration. It is then our role as educators to support and extend upon this learning.

Wimbi:

It was a fantastic day in the Wimbi group this week. This week, we learnt a new song called 'Highway No 1'. We travelled 'round Australia (marching around our room), listening for the instructions on what to do as we landed in each city, 'walk walk and run run run'; 'heel and toe and stamp!'. It was so much fun!  Outdoors, the block corner is ever-popular, with the children building more complex structures, such as houses with rooms, windows and doors. It is encouraging lots of language development and team work. Also outdoors, a water mister was attached to our trickle stream, providing cool relief on a muggy, warm day. Over the past fortnight, many of our children have also been sharing the excitement of visiting their new teachers for 4-year-old kindergarten next year. See you on Friday!

Gawarn:

We had such a wonderful week in Garwan class. The children have had lots of fun exploring and experimenting with the cotton sand. The unique sand like texture can be stretched, squeeze, pinched, pulled apart, moulded and seamlessly re- joined whilst maintaining an even resistance. This sensory activity promotes fine motor skills and hand eye co-ordination.

To commemorate Remembrance day we read the book ‘Lest We Forget’ By Kerry Brown. It is a beautiful ANZAC story that reinforces the importance and significance of the ANZAC. We spoke about the importance of Remembrance day and the Poppy flower. The children learnt some interesting facts about the poppy such as the Red poppy represents the soldiers and the purple Poppy represents the animals. The children were very creative making their very own poppy. Outdoors the children enjoyed the art and craft activities, water play and climbing.

Wishing you a lovely week.

Dharug:

We have had such a lovely day in Dharug class this week. At group time we spoke about Remembrance Day. We learnt about the significance of Remembrance day and some very interesting facts about the Poppy flower. We learnt the Red Poppy flower represents the soldiers and the purple Poppy represents the animals. This inspired us to make our very own Poppy. The children did a fantastic job making and creating their very own Poppy!

The weather was glorious allowing us to spend quality time outdoors. The children had lots of engaging with the various activities. Water play was extremely popular.

Wishing you a lovely week.
