Halo semuanya - hello everyone!
Welcome back for Week 7 of Term 4! Although we have a rainy week ahead, we would like to remind everyone that hats are still required for all outdoor play times. Thank you for double checking that your child has a hat!
In Week 6 we introduced a new purpose of writing… to persuade! Students made choices and explained their choices. This week we are going to be extending our persuasive language skills in Reading and Writing. We will be needing help from our VCOP gang as we try to convince others about the best colour crayon and the best places to visit. Students will need to remember to use WOW Words to make sure their ideas are interesting for the audience (thanks Vinny!), connectives such as ‘because’ to give reasons to match their ideas (thanks Connie!) and may experiment with punctuation such as exclamation marks (thanks Penny!). Check out Seesaw for a range of prompts to practise using persuasive language at home! Can you change each other’s minds? Do you agree or respectfully disagree?
Foundation students were lucky enough to participate in cricket clinics during PE sessions throughout the week and loved connecting cricket to Maths! We used our creativity to imagine that we were going on a trip to a cricket competition! Before we could board the plane, there was some planning to be done! Students “packed” a suitcase with the equipment, clothing, food and other materials necessary for our trip. Whilst packing, they compared and ordered their objects based on length and mass. Students were excited to explore the use of unifix blocks and rulers to measure to determine the shortest and longest objects. They used their hands to practise the ‘hefting’ strategy to determine the lightest and heaviest objects! Keep your eyes peeled on Seesaw to see their projects in action! Great collaboration and teamwork was happening in Foundation.
Throughout Wellbeing sessions, we have been exploring a range of Character Strengths and using them to describe ourselves and those around us. Did you know that November 13th is World Kindness Day? Well we do! Foundation started a 20 Days of Kindness Challenge to practise using our character strengths of kindness, gratitude, bravery, humour and creativity. What can you do at home that would show kindness?
We are excited to welcome Tegan Kitteringham (Miss K) to the Foundation team to complete her final placement. You will see her friendly face in FJ for the next 4 weeks!
Your Foundation teaching team,
Brooke Henwood, Jessica Hirvonen and Ella Gasowski.
