Curriculum

The sun is out and the hats are on! It has been incredible to be out enjoying the sun with Cricket Clinics and we have seen quite a few Year 4 students showing leadership as they began to sign up to become Let’s Talk Mentors.

In Reading this week, we were learning to identify the emotive language in a text. We explained the effect that emotive language can have on the reader and we shared our ideas with our peers. The 3/4's made a chart of what emotive language we can see and how it makes us feel.

In Writing this week, we began making a Google Sites website about native Australian flora. Facts we added to our website included distribution, climate, uses, names, cultivation, distribution maps, diagrams and appearance. For example, the drooping she- oaks timber can be used to make boomerangs also the shoots and cones from the tree can be eaten. The Trigger plant’s scientific name is Stylidium Gramminifolium, so strange!

In Maths, we created tessellations using rotation, translation, glide reflection. Rotation is when the object rotates across, up or diagonally. A translation is an object sliding across or up or diagonally. Finally, a glide reflection is an object sliding and then flipping one hundred and eighty degrees. Students have worked hard using irregular shapes to create tessellations. Check it out on seesaw!

In Wellbeing, we were learning to describe the impact of gender-based violence. We identified perpetrators and victims within a situation, identified how individuals might be feeling, acting and thinking. We then  discussed what we could have done in different scenarios. We created an x-chart to identify these ideas.

This week in Guided Inquiry, all the 3/4s students have been brainstorming their own islands. Students have also been told that they can either make it or draw it featuring biomes, a key, and landmarks. We had to find the climate zone, average rainfall, seasons and began designing a flag to represent the values of our islands. The 3/4s made their island based on the 2022 Guided Inquiry Term 4 based topic ‘Our Island Home'.

Thank you to Aaliyah, Amelie, Liv, Ryan, Archer, Anosh and 3/4W for helping to write this newsletter!

Have a wonderful week,
