From the Head of Sport

With two weeks remaining of Saturday sport, I would like to congratulate everyone on their positive attitude to their training and games over the course of the term. It is very important that when wearing the BMGS logo (and of course at all times) that you act with integrity, treat others with respect and always display good sportsmanship.

For those boys who have helped out at Cricket to ensure that we can get a game going on the weekend, your efforts have been greatly appreciated. For any other students who are still looking for something to do on a Saturday, we are still looking for permanent members of this team. Thanks also to Mr Collins for his efforts with the cricket team.

Congratulations

Jessica Harris (Year 11/12) has this week been named as a member of the 2022/2023 Western Sydney Academy of Sport Netball squad. Jessica has been working very hard on developing her game this year and this is a just reward for her efforts.

Tennis

This week we went back to Orange , so once again, it was an early start, leaving Springwood at 6:00am. I would like to commend the commitment of our players towards this sport. One of our players caught a train to get to the bus in Springwood. Two of four of our Year 8s woke up early and joined us on the bus, and another, having missed the bus, was driven to Orange by his grandfather. We played against St Stanislaus again, but this time, our Odds team played against their Evens team and vice versa.

It was a lovely sunny day in Orange. Our odds team had some good wins and some very close losses. Jesse and David, after losing in the doubles, bounced back to both win their singles. Hugo Lewczak and Jed are pictured here playing doubles. Hugo Hammon joined us this week and due to a confusion between the Hugos, he played doubles in the Evens but singles in the Odds and had a good win. Welcome Hugo to the team. Overall, the Odds team won 12 sets to 8.

Our Evens team is finding things more difficult. There were some very close matches, which could have gone either way – it is a tiebreak at 3 games all and if it is 1 set all, then another is played. Hugo H played in doubles for the Evens. Students are continuing to learn and improve their game. The Evens had a loss this week, 16 sets to 3.

Each week, they are encouraged to reflect on their game and what they can work on for the following week. Some will work on remaining focused and avoiding distractions, whilst others, will work on their serve and technique on their backhand. Tennis is always the winner.
