Positive Climate for Learning
Year 7-9 Learning Community
This week our 7-9 students attended Urban Camp and explored all that Melbourne had to offer. Students learnt how to travel to different locations using public transport including trains, trams and buses to navigate the city.
Students participated in a range of activities over three days visiting Sealife Melbourne Aquarium, ACMI (Australia's national museum of screen culture), Melbourne Museum, IMAX and Melbourne Zoo.
Whilst at SEALIFE Melbourne Aquarium, students walked through oceanarium tunnels, got hands-on in the Discovery Rockpools and marvelled at the King and Gentoo Penguins. At ACMI located in federation square students visited ‘The Story of the Moving Image’ exhibition discovering how inventors and artists have used light and shadow, time and movement, colour and sound to tell stories. Students loved visiting Melbourne Museum, exploring and making discoveries about the various aspects of life including history, different cultures, science and nature, finishing the day at IMAX with a 3D film on a giant screen.
At Melbourne Zoo students looked at their favourite animals and saw more than 320 animal species from Australia and around the world.
The students also got to engage in a variety of activities at night including movies, games and a disco which if the squeals of delight and laughter were anything to go by was a highlight for many students.
The students made the following comments about their time away:
- I had the best time with my friends, it was so fun.
- It was so cool to walk around Melbourne and see so many different things.
- I loved the Museum, Zoo, IMAX and everything. It was amazing. I love CAMP!
- I can’t wait to go back to Melbourne. It was great.
- It was my first time on a tram and it was epic.
It was an incredible opportunity for the students to develop new skills, consolidate friendships and create incredible memories before the end of the year. A big well done to all the students for your participation and an enormous thank-you to the staff team for supporting students during this fabulous educational experience.
