Shoeboxes at Christmas, and an AGM

Well Done and Thank You!

Brenda Ringwaldt, Friends of Donvale

A massive thank you to all the families who packed shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child this year. Between us we managed to pack 398 shoeboxes to bless children and share with them the good news of Jesus. Our boxes will be heading to the Philippines.

Carol Lennon, the Victorian State Manager for Operation Christmas Child sends the following message:

Thank you, DCC, for your generosity and heart to see children’s lives impacted by the message of the gospel. We look forward to sending you all the many videos and pictures that come back from the children receiving their boxes so you know you are making a difference. God bless and thank you!

If you paid for your labels online watch out for emails regarding their processing/shipment/delivery.

On behalf of FOD thank you! We hope you enjoyed filling the boxes as much as the children will enjoy receiving them.  God bless you all for your generosity.

Friends of Donvale AGM

Amanda Gargett, Friends of Donvale President

Does even the idea of an AGM sound boring? Well, ours certainly wasn't!

We met last Monday evening to share delicious food, review the year past, make plans for 2023, confirm the committee for the year ahead and pray together for each other and all the community.

The meeting was open to all members of the school community and we welcomed two guests. We hold four open meetings each  year - one each term - and we’d love to see more people take the opportunity to discover more of what we do. We'll advertise them in advance here and on Schoolbox News.

Meet the Friends of Donvale (FOD) committee for 2023:

  • President - Amanda Gargett
  • Treasurer - Jennifer Hlisic
  • Secretary - Emily Layland
  • Events - Ingrid Briggs, Melissa Gruber, Esther Smith
  • Mothers/Fathers Day stalls - Brenda Ringwaldt
  • Second Hand Uniforms - Martina Saeid, Rebecca Smith
  • Primary and Secondary Rep. Coordinator - TJ Spence

Our purpose is to create and be involved in opportunities which build community amongst staff, parents and students.

There's much to look forward to next year: a “Welcome to 2023” event, Year Level events including Rush HQ, the ever-popular disco, barn dances. There will be opportunities for parents to connect with a wine and cheese night and a trivia night. And look out for us at sporting events across the school with our coffee vans, icy poles to mention but two delights.

None of this will happen without our wonderful volunteers - parents just like you!  So do think about how you might get involved. Not only do you support the FOD team but it's a great chance to meet others and we have lots of fun together!

Finally - from volunteering at an event, to joining Friends of Donvale, to being part of the committee you can help shape building community here at DCC. Come and talk over a coffee!
