Year 3 Camp News

The Year 3 students went on their first-ever school camp last Thursday 1st December to Sovereign Hill. Mrs Kylie, Miss Mannion, Mrs Michelle, Mrs Sarah and Mr Eddy were all so impressed with the resilience, respectful manners and fun attitude they brought along with them. We all had so much fun and engaged in a lot of learning. Here are some snippets of students' recounts and photos to enjoy.

I was feeling extremely confident going into the cave, but when we were in there my body behaved like an earthquake shaking! Every sound effect felt like I was going to die! I was flooded with relief when we got out of the cave alive!

When I stepped foot off the bus I immediately felt the rocky road and got taken back 200 years ago! At the candle shop, there were soaps that smelt like flowers that just bloomed in springtime. I was amazed while watching my classmates make lots of brightly coloured candles. There were blue, pink and purple candles all the way to all the colours of the rainbow! It was really satisfying looking at the candle dipping which was why that was probably my favourite shop out of all of them.

After a Long Journey to camp, we were finally there. It felt like it was the 1800s. The first thing we did was explore. It was an incredible place with old shops everywhere and people wearing old-fashioned clothing. Our first stop…bowling alley!

When I tasted the mouth-watering, hard-boiled sour and sweet lollies at the Confectionary Demonstration, it dragged me straight to the lolly shop!

On the way to Sovereign Hill, Archie and I played a game pretending we were driving an F1 Car. It was so much fun! Then we stopped at the park and it was amazing because we played tag. Some of the views were AWESOME!!

Once we got into our groups, we explored Sovereighn Hill. First some people did candle making then we went passed by Josh’s character, John Aloo’s restaurant. We went gold panning and I found some gold and then we looked at so many other stuff. After exploring the town, time flew by so fast, it was dinner time. We had chicken schnitzel with some potatoes and veggies.

The next day, we went to the candy shop. I bought this some kind of contraption,

it would fling out really far and it was really cool.  From the candy shop I bought

raspberry drops and then we all met up at a park. Logan and Lucinda grouped up

in our group so we had 10 people. After, we went on a mine tour, it was so fun!

We all went gold panning and I got two specks of gold! Then we saw how they made lollies, that was really cool! After, we went to the candle store and I bought one. I got to dip it in coulors and make what ever colour I wanted it to be. I also forgot that we went old-fashioned bowling it was really fun and cool. After we did the candles, we went to the education center where we learnt about what they did in the gold rush. We also learnt about what men wore and what women wore.

Late at night, we went to the Aura Night Show. First, we saw this movie and wore 3D glasses and there were a  bunch of stars with gold. It looked so 3D that I was trying to grab it! After that, we went in these super cool buses and went to this river. It was this other show about Bungil the eagle and about these special animals who where chosen by Bungil to live in the stars with him. My favourite was the sugerglider. After that, we went back into the cool buses and went to this other place where it was a story about the Eureka Stockade. It was kinda scary. We finally went home and went to bed.
