Learning Gallery

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Learning Gallery! As continuing families will know, this section of the newsletter is dedicated to showcasing the many aspects of learning at St Edward's. Throughout the year you will see updates on the exciting projects and activities that are taking place in the classroom, as well as highlights of our children's academic achievements. We believe that it is important to keep you informed and involved in your child's education, and this section is designed to do just that.

In addition to updates on classroom activities, we will also share resources and tips for supporting your child's learning at home. We understand that parenting can be a challenging but rewarding experience, and we want to offer you the support and guidance you need to help your child reach their full potential.

As our students have only been at school for three days, we would like to share some suggestions for ways you can support your child's learning at home. One effective way to do this is by asking questions about what they have learned each day. This is an important habit to establish as part of your afternoon routines. Here are some types of questions you should ask your child:

  • Recall Questions: These questions help your child recall what they learned in class. Examples include "What did you learn today?" or "Can you tell me about the main ideas from today's lesson?"
  • Application Questions: These questions encourage your child to apply their knowledge to new situations. Examples include "How would you use what you learned today in a real-life scenario?" or "Can you give an example of how this concept applies to your life?"
  • Analysis Questions: These questions encourage your child to think critically about what they have learned. Examples include "What do you think the author meant by this?" or "How does this relate to what you learned yesterday?"
  • Synthesis Questions: These questions encourage your child to combine and build on their knowledge. Examples include "What would happen if this concept was applied in a different way?" or "How does this fit into the bigger picture?"

By asking questions like these, you can help your child make connections between what they have learned and their own experiences. This will deepen their understanding of the material and encourage them to think critically about their education.

We look forward to sharing the many amazing things that are happening at St Edward's. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to us.
