Reading

The students in Prep - 2 have been working hard this year, using Little Learners Love Literacy to learn the sounds different letters and letter combinations make. Little Learners Love Literacy is a sequential and explicit approach for teaching children to read, write and spell with confidence. 

This term the Prep children have been enjoying reading Decodable Books at school and at home. Decodable Books are books that have the letter-sound correspondences that the reader has been explicitly taught. Children use their knowledge of letters and sounds to decode the words in the text independently.

To assist the children to read the Decodable Books they have also started to learn to read and write ‘Heart Words.’ These are words that children need to 'learn by heart' as they cannot decode them yet.
