From Our School Leaders

NAPLAN

It’s NAPLAN time and we are well and truly into the testing period now. Reading, Writing and Spelling and Grammar Conventions have been administered; Maths will be next week. I would like to acknowledge the calm and professional approach that has been taken by staff in implementing the NAPLAN testing program. Scoresby PS was chosen to be audited for our procedures and processes for NAPLAN implementation this year and we passed the assessment with flying colours and compliments.

All tests - except the grade three writing test - are now online.  This is meant to speed up schools receiving results. This is the first time the whole state has been online. We will be in touch when we are notified of our 2022 NAPLAN results.

Enrolments For 2023

We are ready to take enrolments for Foundation 2023. If you, or anyone you know, have a child looking to come to Scoresby PS for Foundation 2023, now is the term to fill in your enrolment form.

We are holding our OPEN MORNING on Saturday 21st May, 10.00am-12.00noon for interested 2023 Foundation families. It’s an opportunity to come into our Foundation space, meet staff, school leaders and see what we have to offer our students. School tours with our School Captains will also be offered during the morning.

We hope families can stop by on their way to or from voting.

Education Week Next Week

Scoresby PS will be celebrating Education Week from 16th May - 22nd May. We hope you can come to school and enjoy the planned events. Please see the flyer later in the newsletter  for details of our planned events. Education Week activities have also been sent out to families via COMPASS.

We are so excited to be able to hold these events and welcome the school community back. As there will be extra people coming into school, we are asking all attendees to follow COVID-safe precautions and wear a mask. We will provide hand sanitiser at the door of each classroom for use when entering and exiting each room.

We thank you in advance for working with us to keep everyone safe.

Attendance At School

We are monitoring student attendance this term, tracking children who have high absenteeism and perpetual lateness. We are noticing patterns in student lateness. The morning routine you have in childhood often sets up good behaviours for your children’s future, and helps them prepare for the workforce in their adult years.

If your morning routine is the cause of lateness, it may be a good time to discuss the importance of punctuality and set some goals for you and your children to achieve. You may wish to start small by aiming to be at school on Monday on time, and then increasing the number of days you are on time.

Please work with us in getting your children to school on time.  Sue or Nicole are available to discuss strategies with you if needed.
