PRINCIPAL'S NEWS

Mrs Caroline Galea

Dear Parents,

I sincerely hope that all our mums had a wonderful day last Sunday. While we acknowledge Mother's Day once a year, we know our Mother's work tirelessly and should be acknowledged everyday.  Thank you to all the mums that were able to come along to our morning tea, I hope that you had a great break.

I would also like to thank Maria Buttifant, staff and students on their wonderful Circus, Circus production. The children really did do an amazing job. In Term 3, it will be the Year 3 and 4's turn.

Confirmation

This  week, our Year 6 students are looking forward to their Confirmation. We would like to congratulate these students. Read more on our Religion Page.

NAPLAN

This week both our Year 5 and Year 3 students have taken part in NAPLAN.

NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time. NAPLAN is just one aspect of our school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by our teachers, but it can provide us with additional information. It also provides us with information about how education programs are working and whether our students are achieving in literacy and numeracy.

Unlike previous years, NAPLAN is now online across Australia. However, all Year 3 students will continue to complete the writing assessment on paper. Online NAPLAN tests provide more precise results and are more engaging for students. One of the main benefits is tailored (or adaptive) testing, where the test presents questions which may be more or less difficult depending on a student’s responses. Tailored testing allows a wider range of student abilities to be assessed and measures student achievement more precisely.

If you want to find out more about NAPLAN, visit nap.edu.au

School Photos

School Photos will take place on Wednesday 18th May. All children should be in complete winter uniform. Any child who normally has sport on that day, can bring their runners to school.

Closure Day

Please remember that May 20th will be a school closure day where the staff will be doing some professional learning around the area of Mathematics.  After discussions with Camp Australia, our before and after care provider, they have decided to provide care during the day for children that may require it.  Please check the flyer in the community news section.

Uniforms

Could we please ensure that the children are wearing the correct school uniform.  We have a number of children that are coming to school in runners on non sport days.

COVID

This week, your child will come home with another box of Rapid Antigen Tests.  Once again COVID is beginning to creep in and in most cases, quite unexpectedly. Please continue to test your child. There have been some changes to Government regulations.

Please note the following:

  1. Children who have tested positive to COVID recently, do not need to test for 12 weeks after contracting the virus.
  2. Children who live in the same household with someone who has tested positive, can still come to school provided that they test regularly and wear a mask.

Please note that the school has a number of masks, so if your family requires masks, do not go out and buy them, please just ask.

Wellbeing Parent meeting

Please be sure to read / take a look at the Wellbeing page to get further information about our Wellbeing Parent evening.

Assembly

We now have assembly back on in the Hall every Monday at 2:30pm. We welcome all parents.

Nude Food Day

It has been brought to our attention that there is confusion over Nude Food Day. Every Thursday is Nude Food Day. Remember, one 'nude lunchbox' equals one point for your House.

Special Thanks

A special thanks to Alyssa's dad, Charlie for the generous donation of a new sports pump. If you are after any tools, please contact Charlie at Kangaroo Trade Services Australia.

Children’s Absence from School

It is a requirement that if your child is absent from school, you either ring and advise the office on the day of absence OR email the teacher/office. Please note that if your child is absent from school for 3 consecutive days, without notification from you and we are unable to contact you, it is procedure that we have to ring the police and they will attend your house to do a welfare check. To avoid this, please take the time to report your child’s absence to us.
