Deputy Principal

As we approach the end of Term 2, I spoke to the staff and students at last week's assembly about the importance of community. Over the last week, we celebrated Founder’s Day. This was my first experience of Founder’s Day at the College and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the community come alive and celebrate Blessed Edmund Rice and give thanks for the Christian Brothers. A wonderful mass was followed by the Founder’s Day Concert led by our Year 12 Students which featured wonderful skits and the Battle of the Bands. The day concluded with lunch and the running of the Waterford Mile. There was a real sense of togetherness on the day, and I spoke to the boys at our Assembly last Friday of the importance of being grateful that Edmund Rice devoted himself to educating those less fortunate than himself, and that the Christian Brothers continued his mission by coming out to Australia and establishing schools here. We stand on the shoulders of those pioneering Christian Brothers who devoted themselves to educating young men here at St Patrick’s College.

At Assembly, we were also fortunate to celebrate our Academic Excellence Award winners from Years 5 to 10. It is important as a College that we celebrate academic achievement. Every young man at St Patrick’s should always strive to do their best academically. As long as students are making every effort to achieve their best, that is all that we can ask of them.

The assembly concluded with us recognising our Senior Theatresports Team, with Oliver Clarke in Year 12 presenting me with the NSW Theatresports Challenge Grand Finalists Trophy, an amazing accomplishment for the team. We were also able to recognise individual achievement with Jack Dwyer (Year 12) who has been selected in the FINA Youth Men’s Australian World Championship Water Polo Team. We wish Jack well as he represents Australia in Serbia in August later this year.
