Rugby Wrap Up in Bathurst

A big thank you to the Rugby fraternity who travelled over the mountains to play St Stanislaus’ College in Bathurst last Saturday 18 June. A proud rivalry between the two schools with some silver were up for grabs. Unfortunately, a narrow loss in the First XV (16 – 10) saw Stannies retain the First XV O’Hara Trophy.

The Fourth XV played for the Dan Kirlin Cup, in a thrilling contest going down in a nail biter. Stannies were victorious scoring a converted try to win 19 -17. A physical encounter between the two teams played in great spirit. It was quoted by the players at the end of the match “that was the best game we’ve ever played in… so much fun!”.

Despite those two losses, wins to our 13C, 14A, 14B, 14C, 15A, 15B, 15C and Second XV contributed to a successful day of Rugby. Congratulations to all teams for their valiant efforts across the board. The College did win the Mark McFadden Aggregate Shield which is contested between all A and B fixtures. Having been drawn at the end of the day with five wins each, as last year’s winner SPC retain the Shield until we play again next season.

Regardless of the results, I commend all who made the trip and the manner in which the boys wore their uniform and conducted themselves. By many reports from parents/carers and boys I have spoken to, they thoroughly enjoyed the trip away and look forward to making a weekend of it again in the future years.
